About Calix and the IT Portfolio Delivery Intern Role

Calix is excited to offer a full-time, remote Summer Internship opportunity for an IT Portfolio Delivery Intern, open to students located anywhere in the United States or Canada. This role is part of Calix's unique and award-winning internship program, designed to provide comprehensive learning through training and hands-on experience.

The Information Technology Delivery Team is seeking an enthusiastic, strategic thinker, team player, and self-motivated problem solver for this summer program. The IT Portfolio Delivery Intern will be instrumental in supporting the application and iteration of delivery standards, collaborating with teams to optimize processes, and leveraging AI technology, specifically Microsoft Copilot, to identify and enable agentic workflows. Reporting to the IT Delivery Director and supervised by the Senior IT Program Delivery Manager, this role is centered on enhancing efficiency, eliminating manual tasks, and driving transformation within delivery and portfolio management over an expected 90-day duration.

Responsibilities and Duties

As an IT Portfolio Delivery Intern, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Support Portfolio Design and Implementation
    • Applying standards from established portfolio delivery frameworks such as Agile, SAFe, and Kanban.
    • Iterating on reporting processes by working closely with all delivery teams to establish a uniform portfolio reporting approach.
    • Helping build and organize project structures within work management platforms like Jira and Confluence, including milestones, labels, links, and metadata.
    • Assisting in mapping current Jira project structures to executive dashboards.
    • Participating in various adoption scenarios, from building structures from scratch to cleanup and enhancement.
    • Applying the newly defined portfolio design by creating and updating project structures, milestones, labels, links, and required metadata in Jira.
  • Experiment with AI Tools & Build AI Agents
    • Experimenting with automation and building agents to eliminate manual steps in delivery processes, such for incremental milestones planning, story points analysis and assignment, and data collection and report updates automation.
    • Testing and refining these agents using real data to ensure effectiveness and accuracy.
  • Learn from Real IT Teams
    • Attending various delivery meetings, including sprint planning, retrospectives, prioritization sessions, and project updates.
    • Utilizing insights gained from these meetings to improve project data structures and workflow accuracy.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you should possess the following qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in a technical field, preferably Information Technology related, with at least two years of study completed.
  • Strong foundational familiarity with how project, program, and portfolio data are structured.
  • Foundational understanding of IT delivery and portfolio management processes and OKRs, including an understanding of Value-Based versus Activity-Based Metrics.
  • Proficiency with Tools & Integration: understanding of Jira data architecture, Confluence auto-population, and Power BI modeling & visualization.
  • Experience with AI and automation, coupled with an awareness of what agents are and how they can be developed using tools like Microsoft Copilot.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify inefficiencies and propose process improvements.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, enabling effective work with delivery managers, development teams, and various stakeholders.
  • Adaptability and curiosity, demonstrating a willingness to experiment and iterate on frameworks and processes.
  • Exceptional attention to detail in maintaining documentation, tracking actions, ensuring process integrity, and prioritizing tasks.
  • A proactive mindset, comfortable supporting transformation initiatives and driving automation opportunities.
  • A positive attitude, self-motivated, and eager to learn.
  • Availability to work for the complete summer break (May - August or June - September).
