Fibre Field Technician at BUUK Infrastructure

This role is field-based, covering Southampton, Bournemouth, Portsmouth, and surrounding areas. Full training will be provided, ensuring you're well-equipped for the responsibilities ahead.
Role Purpose
This field-based position is crucial for facilitating the maintenance and incident response for events occurring on the OFNL network. You will play a vital role in ensuring the continuous operation and reliability of our Fibre To The Premises (FTTP) network.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance of telecoms equipment deployed across our FTTP network.
- Work as part of the OFNL wholesale/operational brand, providing essential support to our Network Operation Centre (NOC) and Field Engineering teams.
- Participate actively in a call-out rota, acting as a first responder for initial fault diagnosis or maintenance work during out-of-hours periods, including weekends and public holidays.
- Contribute significantly to the successful delivery of OFNL services to our customers.
- Conduct day-to-day maintenance activities on OFNL’s network equipment.
- Perform site audits against established network design standards and specifications to ensure compliance.
- Always work safely, adhering to all protocols and wearing relevant supplied Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Act as a professional OFNL representative, providing escort for third-party access as required.
- Offer “remote hands” support to NOC engineering teams for various tasks.
- Provide crucial support to field engineers during activities requiring two people.
- Create and maintain accurate OFNL documentation as required.
- Attend necessary training courses and stay up to date with relevant technologies and industry advancements.
- Consistently conduct yourself professionally as a representative of BUUK Infrastructure.

Qualifications & Experience
- CSCS Card.
- Experience with Fibre To The Home (FTTH) networks.
Desirable Qualifications & Skills
- City & Guilds 3667-02 certification.
- NRSWA certificate.
- Safety underground certificate SA002.
- Duct survey certificate S6.
- Experience in network maintenance tasks, GPON/FTTH technology, or a broader telecom environment.
- Proficient in the use of an OTDR tester and capable of analysing the results.
- Adaptable to changing work practices and environments.
Conditions of Employment
- You are required to have your criminal records checked through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) due to the nature of working in customers’ homes.
- You must hold a valid driving licence.
- Participation in a standby rota is a requirement of this role.
