Job Summary

We are seeking a Manager of Data Engineering to lead the design, development, and execution of our modern data platform. This role offers the opportunity to build from the ground up: consolidating fragmented systems, architecting scalable pipelines, and unlocking the potential of data across gaming, hospitality, and food & beverage operations. The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in SQL, APIs, and Azure, has led transformational data platform initiatives, and brings a pragmatic mix of strategy and hands-on engineering skills. Experience in highly regulated industries, such as gaming, is highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

• Platform Development: Design and lead the build of a modern, cloud-based data platform (Azure, Snowflake, Redshift, or BigQuery) to unify siloed systems across multiple facilities.
• Pipeline Architecture: Build and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines that integrate data from legacy, Excel-based, and API-driven systems into structured, accessible formats.
• Data Strategy: Partner with business and technology stakeholders to create a phased roadmap for data integration, governance, and advanced analytics enablement.
• Discovery & Assessment: Conduct current-state analysis to document systems, data flows, and dependencies—identifying opportunities for immediate impact.
• Proof of Concept: Deliver initial POCs to prove business value, gain stakeholder buy-in, and secure additional investment for scaling.
• Collaboration: Work closely with analysts, data scientists, and business leaders to ensure data is reliable, discoverable, and actionable for dashboards, KPIs, and future ML models.
• MLOps Foundations: Support the early development of machine learning infrastructure (model deployment, monitoring pipelines, feature stores).
• Leadership: Manage and mentor a growing team of data engineers, establishing best practices for data quality, governance, and scalability.
• Hands-On Contribution: Participate in initial engineering tasks (ETL builds, pipeline design, SQL development) while laying the foundation for long-term architecture and technology decisions.

What You’ll Bring

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or related field.
• Experience: 5+ years in data engineering with at least 2 years in a leadership/managerial capacity. Track record of designing and implementing modern data platforms in organizations transitioning from legacy or fragmented systems. Strong background in SQL, APIs, Azure, and ETL pipeline design. Familiarity with data tools like dbt, Airflow, Fivetran, or similar. Experience working with highly regulated data environments (gaming industry experience strongly preferred; VLT licensing required or ability to obtain).
• Technical Skills: Cloud data warehouse experience (Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery, or Azure Synapse). Strong grasp of data modeling, orchestration, and version control practices. Exposure to machine learning workflows and MLOps practices.
• Soft Skills: Exceptional communicator, able to translate complex technical concepts into executive-friendly insights. Pragmatic problem-solver who thrives in evolving environments. Collaborative leader who builds relationships across technical and business teams. Ability to balance strategic vision with hands-on execution.
