Our client is a rapidly growing, private equity-backed manufacturing organization serving the infrastructure, construction, and renewable energy industries through multiple business divisions. The organization is focused on building scalable operational and technology infrastructure to support long-term growth, acquisitions, and enterprise-wide operational visibility.

As part of this transformation, our client recently established a centralized Systems & Data Team responsible for modernizing ERP systems, improving reporting and analytics capabilities, and building a scalable enterprise data foundation across the organization.

Job Summary

We are seeking a hands-on Data Engineer to join a newly formed Systems & Data Team in Chicago. This individual will play a foundational role in helping build and scale a centralized enterprise data platform capable of supporting operational growth, acquisitions, and enterprise reporting across multiple business divisions.

The ideal candidate is a practical, solutions-oriented data professional with strong ETL and SQL expertise, experience supporting operational or ERP-connected environments, and the ability to work cross-functionally with finance, operations, and business stakeholders. This role will support the full lifecycle from data pipeline development through semantic modeling and business reporting enablement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable ETL/data pipelines that integrate ERP, CRM, operational, and reporting systems into a centralized enterprise data platform.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders and external consulting teams to support the implementation and ongoing evolution of the enterprise data warehouse and reporting environment.
  • Participate in architecture discussions and platform evaluation efforts while supporting long-term operational ownership of the environment.
  • Support integration and normalization of data across disparate ERP and operational systems spanning multiple business divisions and future acquisitions.
  • Build and maintain semantic models and business-facing data structures that support operational, financial, and executive reporting requirements.
  • Support self-service analytics and reporting capabilities through Power BI, including dashboard development and operational reporting enhancements.
  • Collaborate with finance, operations, and ERP/business systems teams to translate reporting requirements into scalable and maintainable data solutions.
  • Automate repetitive reporting and operational workflows using Python, Power Automate, or related technologies to reduce manual effort and improve data reliability.
  • Monitor pipeline health, troubleshoot data issues, and proactively address failures, latency, and data inconsistencies before they impact the business.
  • Support enterprise scalability initiatives tied to acquisitions, operational growth, and long-term modernization of reporting infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Data Analytics, or a related technical field.
  • 1–4 years of experience in data engineering, ETL development, analytics engineering, or a related role.
  • Experience working within ERP-connected or operational reporting environments.
  • Experience supporting business intelligence or operational analytics initiatives.
  • Strong SQL skills required.
  • Experience with Python or similar scripting languages for automation and data transformation.
  • Experience building and maintaining ETL/data pipelines.
  • Experience with Power BI and business reporting tools.
  • Familiarity with semantic modeling and data warehouse concepts.
  • Strong communication and business translation skills.
  • Ability to operate in evolving, fast-moving environments.
  • Comfortable partnering with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Hybrid work environment with expected in-office collaboration in Chicago.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting manufacturing, industrial, construction, or operational business environments.
  • Experience working with ERP systems such as Acumatica or similar platforms.
  • Familiarity with modern cloud data platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks, Microsoft Fabric, or Azure-based ecosystems.
  • Experience with Power Automate, SharePoint, or Microsoft 365 integrations.
  • Exposure to medallion architecture or centralized enterprise data platform initiatives.
  • Experience supporting M&A integration or enterprise scalability initiatives.
