What the job really is

For more than a century, Burgess & Niple has helped communities strengthen the infrastructure that supports everyday life. Our teams combine technical expertise with a commitment to improving quality of life, safety and sustainability. At B&N, that legacy shapes meaningful careers. You will collaborate on projects that make a difference, grow alongside experienced teams and contribute to work that has lasting impact.

Lead alternate delivery transportation projects while shaping the future of our regional practice as Director, Alternative Delivery. In this pivotal role, you'll guide pursuit teams and project teams through complex design-build and alternative delivery projects for state DOTs, and local municipalities, while serving as a trusted client advisor and developing the next generation of alternate delivery talent. You'll combine deep technical expertise with strategic pursuit and capture leadership to deliver exceptional projects on time and within budget, building lasting partnerships that strengthen the firm's market position and expand our presence across the region.

What You'll Do

  • Assist in defining and executing the firm's alternate delivery strategy aligned with transportation clients and growth objectives in Florida (i.e. low-bid design-build, adjusted-score design-build and modified-phased design-build)
  • Collaborate with current firm leaders in market positioning with FDOTs, toll agencies and major local owners; identify and shape upcoming opportunities
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to clients on procurement, delivery methods, and risk posture, while representing the firm through industry engagement and thought leadership
  • Lead the end-to-end capture process for alternate delivery pursuits, including go/no-go decisions, teaming, pricing strategy and win themes
  • Select and negotiate teaming arrangements with contractors and specialty partners, and direct proposal development, interviews, and shortlist strategies aligned with client evaluation criteria
  • Maintain a robust pipeline of alternate delivery opportunities
  • Provide oversight for major alternate delivery projects to ensure scope, schedule, budget, quality, and safety performance
  • Lead resolution of critical technical, constructability, permitting, and stakeholder challenges, applying risk-based design, cost, schedule, and quality management practices to minimize exposure and avoid claims
  • Champion integration of design, construction, and operations across all disciplines
  • Grow the alternate delivery practice, including hiring, mentoring, retention and succession planning, and develop internal capabilities through coaching and training in alternate delivery best practices
  • Plan and allocate resources across concurrent pursuits and projects while fostering a high-performance culture emphasizing accountability, collaboration and quality
  • Drive financial and operational performance, including revenue forecasting, margin, backlog and utilization
  • Lead contract negotiations with a balanced focus on competitiveness and risk mitigation
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators for pursuits and delivery, and promote continuous improvement, innovation and lessons learned across the practice

Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an ABET accredited engineering program
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration required in the state of employment
  • 20+ years of related experience
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to foster collaboration
