About the Role of Data Governance Analyst at Bunnings

We are seeking an experienced Data Governance Analyst to join our Bunnings Data & AI team and help shape how data is used right across our business. This role offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on our team members, stores, and customers by uplifting how we govern, protect, and utilize data at scale. You will be instrumental in translating data governance principles into practical, everyday processes and working closely with various business units to enhance data quality and ensure responsible data usage.

Key Responsibilities

  • Bringing the data governance framework to life by translating principles into easily adoptable processes, standards, and ways of working.
  • Partnering across the business with the Data Council, business data stewards, and technology teams to elevate data quality and governance across key domains.
  • Improving the data lifecycle management, ensuring data is well-managed, trusted, and available from creation to disposal.
  • Actively identifying data quality issues, shaping remediation plans, and designing sustainable controls and checks with stakeholders.
  • Protecting critical and sensitive data by contributing to policies, standards, and controls for safety, compliance, and fitness for purpose.
  • Building data governance awareness by designing and delivering practical training and guidance across the organization.

About You

You are an experienced Data Governance Analyst comfortable with both detailed tasks and strategic thinking, thriving in fast-paced environments where priorities can shift. You possess a curious mind about business operations and excel at translating complex data concepts into plain language and practical processes. Taking initiative and comfortable with ambiguity, you enjoy shaping and building new ways of working. Collaboration is second nature, and you are adept at engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders, understanding their needs, and finding practical solutions together. Your communication is clear and confident, whether in workshops, discussions, or written summaries. You bring strong relationship-building skills, a thoughtful approach to problem-solving, and a continuous learning mindset, always seeking better and more efficient ways to support your teams.

What You’ll Need

  • 2–4 years’ experience in data governance.
  • Practical understanding of core concepts such as data stewardship, metadata, master data, data quality, and data controls.
  • Experience working with data catalogues, data quality tools, and visualisation platforms like Power BI (or similar).
  • Tertiary qualifications in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, Law, Business, or a similar field are advantageous, but relevant experience and a positive attitude are highly valued.
