Summary
Under the immediate supervision of the Manager of Business Analysts, the Business Analyst I discovers, synthesizes, and analyzes information to elicit business needs, document requirements, devise strategies and solutions, and implement changes with the goal of improving business outcomes for small projects or segments of larger projects. This is an entry-level position with an opportunity to grow within the 32BJ Benefit Funds Business Analysis practice.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with departmental stakeholders to identify and understand business and technical processes and requirements.
- Work with senior Business Analyst team members to implement small projects or segments of larger projects, and enhancements.
- Create business requirements as well as functional and non-functional requirements.
- Create user guides and expand content for institutional knowledge such as data dictionaries, terminology, and software inventories.
- Analyze current processes and help define process improvements.
- Assess proposed solutions to determine which fit the business need, identify gaps and shortcomings in solutions and determine necessary workarounds and/or changes to the solutions proposed.
- Assist in collecting and analyzing data.
- Assist with management of projects ensuring end-to-end successful completion to meet business goals. Activities may include assisting with creation and management of project plans, scope, RAID log, budget. Communicate project status updates.
- Assist with development of business cases, feasibility studies and scope solutions for new business processes and technical applications.
- Assist with creation of test plans, develop and execute test cases, report system issues.
- Focus on learning and building business analysis skills and competencies to successfully work independently on projects.
- Resolve production support requests.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by management/supervisory staff.
- Perform tasks after hours, on weekends, and as required by management/supervisory staff.
Qualifications and Skills

- 0 to 2 years of work experience eliciting and documenting requirements, software testing, data analysis.
- Experience with document, spreadsheet, diagramming and presentation editing software like Word, Excel, Visio, and PowerPoint.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organization, analytical thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to quickly learn, explain, and apply acquired knowledge essential to the position.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with project team members, supervisors, and employees from other departments.
- Ability and willingness to work in a fairly fast-paced environment to consistently meet project deadlines.
- Strong technical writing skills: ability to write complex technical material and other communications that are clear, concise, and complete.
- Strong verbal communication skills; ability to discuss complex topics one-on-one, in a group setting, and as a lead presenter to an audience of varying levels of experience.
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or a related discipline.
Language Skills
Speak, read, write and understand English.
Reasoning Ability
High.

Entry Certificate in Business Analysis (ECBA) is a plus.
