About the role
Project Accountant
The Project Accountant will work closely with Project Management on all areas of project accounting, reporting, subcontracting and administrative issues. The Project Accountant will report directly to the Area Controller. The successful candidate must have the ability to multi-task, see the big picture, be detail-oriented and have previous construction accounting experience. This position is on-site.
Responsibilities
Hands on transactional, compliance and reporting functions including, but not limited to:
- Effectively communicate with clients, internal team, trades, lenders and corporate accounting.
- Gain understanding of key contract terms and conditions related to finance and accounting to assist in both compliance and risk management.
- Assist in all project start-up and close-out activities, including record retention compliance.
- Work with Project Managers to review, code and approve subcontractor and supplier invoices.
- Work with Project Managers to prepare monthly owner billings, schedule of value updates, and owner change orders.
- Maintain documentation of all SOV revisions and contingency use, including back up documentation.
- Collect and record all pre-lien and lien tracking, including obtaining proper required lien waivers.
- Track subcontractor insurance and licensing compliance.
- Prepare, code and process expense reports.
Requirements
- 5+ years’ experience in construction accounting
- Strong analytical skills with strong attention to detail.
- Adherence to company policy and procedures and strong use of systems
- Exceptional ability to multi-task, prioritize and execute completion of tasks with quality.
- Ability to work independently, exercise discretion, apply common sense, and ask for help or clarification when needed.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to create concise, clear emails and presentation of work.
- Solid computer skills, with proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel.
- Experience in construction accounting software such as Timberline and Textura a plus.
