Job Overview
Our client is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Safety and Legal Compliance Officer to lead the development and maintenance of a robust compliance framework. This role is critical for ensuring that the organization adheres to all occupational health, safety, and labor regulations across multiple jurisdictions, including Nova Scotia, Quebec, California, and Washington State. The successful candidate will transition from an initial focus on policy creation to ongoing maintenance and general HR administrative support.
Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM ADT, with a 30-minute paid break (40 hours per week)
Responsibilities
- Policy Development: Develop and implement workplace safety and legal compliance policies across multiple jurisdictions (Nova Scotia, Quebec, California, and Washington State).
- Handbook Maintenance: Maintain and update the employee handbook to reflect current laws and organizational standards.
- Regulatory Monitoring: Monitor changes in local, provincial, and state labor and safety regulations to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Training Coordination: Coordinate and oversee compliance-related training for staff across all operating locations.
- HR Support: Support general HR administrative tasks as compliance workload stabilizes, including onboarding and documentation.
- Audit & Gap Analysis: Conduct regular audits of existing policies to identify and address compliance gaps.
Requirements
- Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations and employment law across multiple jurisdictions.
- Experience creating, drafting, and maintaining workplace compliance policies and procedures.
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy in legal and regulatory documentation.
- Strong written communication skills with the ability to translate complex regulations into clear, actionable policies.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities across different regulatory environments.
- Familiarity with HR best practices and general administrative support functions.
Scope
- Multi-jurisdictional compliance coverage across Canadian provinces and U.S. states.
- Integration into the client's Microsoft Office 365 environment and existing workflows.
- Initial focus on building out a complete compliance framework, transitioning to ongoing maintenance and broader HR duties.
- Collaboration with internal stakeholders including leadership and HR team members.
