Overview
BruntWork is seeking a detail-oriented Medical Content Editor and Book Formatter to finalize a 300-page medical self-help manuscript for patient use. You will be responsible for ensuring medical accuracy and empathy while professionally formatting the text and images for digital and print publication.
This is a permanent work-from-home role under an Independent Contractor arrangement. Candidates must have their own computer and reliable internet connection, and are responsible for their own taxes and benefits. Professional hourly fees are established based on your performance in the application process.

Responsibilities
- Substantive & Copy Editing: Review the manuscript for flow, tone, and clarity. Ensure complex medical concepts are explained in a way that is easy for patients to understand.
- Proofreading: Correct all grammar, spelling, punctuation, and syntax errors.
- Fact-Checking: Verify medical terminology and consistency throughout the text.
- Formatting: Professional layout for both digital (E-book) and print (PDF/Print-on-Demand) versions.
- Image Integration: Properly place and format pictures/graphics within the text to ensure a clean, professional aesthetic.
Requirements
- Experience: Proven track record in editing non-fiction, specifically in the medical, health, or wellness sectors.
- Patient-Centric Voice: Ability to maintain a supportive, self-help tone while keeping the professional integrity of medical advice.
- Software Proficiency: Expert in MS Word (Track Changes) and book formatting software (e.g., Adobe InDesign, Vellum, or Reedsy Editor).
- Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy regarding medical citations and image captions.
