Job Overview: Bilingual Spanish Criminal Legal Assistant

Our client is actively seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Bilingual Spanish Criminal Legal Assistant to provide essential support to their legal team in the management of criminal cases. This pivotal role demands a strong understanding of criminal law procedures, exceptional organizational capabilities, and the utmost discretion when handling sensitive information. As a Bilingual Spanish Criminal Legal Assistant, you will be instrumental in assisting attorneys with comprehensive case preparation, facilitating client communication, and performing crucial administrative tasks to ensure the smooth and efficient management of all legal proceedings.

This is a permanent work-from-home opportunity under an Independent Contractor arrangement. Candidates are required to possess their own computer and a reliable internet connection. Responsibilities for taxes and benefits lie with the independent contractor. Professional hourly fees will be determined based on performance during the application process.

Schedule

  • Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:30 PM Georgia Time
  • Includes 1 hour unpaid break (40 work hours per week)

Responsibilities

  • Assist attorneys in preparing criminal cases, which includes organizing evidence, exhibits, and comprehensive case files.
  • Draft, proofread, and meticulously format a variety of legal documents such as motions, subpoenas, discovery requests, and general correspondence.
  • Conduct thorough legal research and effectively summarize findings to support robust case strategy development.
  • Maintain and consistently update case files, court calendars, and critical deadlines to ensure full compliance with all legal requirements.
  • Communicate professionally and promptly with clients, witnesses, court personnel, and other relevant parties.
  • Accurately file documents with courts, law enforcement agencies, and other necessary institutions.
  • Track and manage billing, invoices, and all administrative records pertinent to criminal cases.
  • Provide support to attorneys during trials, hearings, and depositions, including the preparation of exhibits and case materials.
  • Monitor ongoing case progress and deliver timely status updates to both attorneys and clients.
  • Ensure the highest level of confidentiality and proper handling of sensitive information at all times.

Requirements

  • Previous experience as a Legal Assistant or Paralegal, with a preference for criminal law (1–2 years of experience).
  • Strong knowledge of criminal law procedures, court rules, and precise legal terminology.
  • Excellent organizational, multitasking, and time-management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with proficiency in Spanish.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant legal case management software.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team, often under tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated high level of discretion and professionalism when handling confidential information.
