Job Description

Managing Consultant, Healthcare Payer & Provider Enterprise Strategy

At BRG, we approach consulting differently. The Managing Consultant, Healthcare Payer & Provider Enterprise Strategy, is tasked with leading complex, multi-workstream client engagements. This role involves overseeing project teams, nurturing client relationships, and developing strategic insights and actionable recommendations. A key aspect of this leadership position is defining engagement structures, ensuring analytical rigor, and consistently delivering high-impact results to senior client stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will possess a robust consulting toolkit, profound knowledge of the healthcare market spanning both payers and providers, and proven experience in designing and executing strategic partnerships and integration initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engagement Leadership: Lead the full lifecycle of consulting engagements, encompassing scoping, planning, and execution. Oversee multiple workstreams, ensuring seamless integration of analytical outputs, insights, and recommendations. Maintain accountability for the quality of deliverables, adherence to timelines, budget management, and overall client satisfaction.
  • Client Relationship Management: Serve as the primary client leader on a day-to-day basis, fostering trusted advisory relationships with senior executives across health plans, health systems, Clinically Integrated Networks (CINs), and various provider groups. Facilitate executive workshops, steering committee sessions, and strategic planning meetings. Effectively translate client requirements into structured consulting approaches and actionable strategies.
  • Enterprise Strategy Development: Spearhead the creation of enterprise-level payer and provider strategies, including market expansion and portfolio diversification, enterprise growth planning and scenario modeling, organizational strategy and transformation roadmaps, and care model, service line, and population health strategy. Synthesize comprehensive quantitative and qualitative analyses into robust strategic frameworks and executive-level recommendations.
  • Strategic Partnerships & Payer-Provider Integration: Lead the assessment, design, and implementation planning for critical payer–provider partnerships. This includes joint ventures, delegated arrangements, risk-bearing entities, clinically integrated networks, provider enablement models, Accountable Care Organization (ACO) formation, value-based care partnerships, and strategic alignment and incentive models. Provide expert advice to clients on organizational capabilities, partnership governance, and crucial integration requirements.
  • Thought Leadership & Intellectual Capital: Cultivate and shape the firm’s perspective on pivotal industry trends such as provider enablement, payer–provider alignment, value-based care, and enterprise transformation. Develop innovative frameworks, methodologies, and toolkits to enhance firm capabilities. Actively contribute to articles, white papers, and proposal development.
  • Team Leadership & Talent Development: Manage and mentor Associates and Senior Associates, offering consistent coaching, constructive feedback, and opportunities for skill development. Promote a culture characterized by structured problem-solving, analytical rigor, commitment to quality, and collaborative teamwork. Participate in recruiting efforts and professional development initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree is required; an advanced degree (MBA, MHA, MPH, MPP) is strongly preferred.
  • 6–10+ years of relevant experience in healthcare strategy consulting or payer/provider enterprise strategy is essential.
  • A deep understanding of healthcare markets, economics, regulatory dynamics, and diverse payer–provider business models.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading consulting engagements and effectively managing client relationships.
  • Proven capability to design and execute strategies involving provider partnerships, care model transformation, and comprehensive enterprise planning.
  • Exceptional communication skills, including the ability to engage in executive-level storytelling.
