The Opportunity

We are seeking a Health & Physical Education teacher with Primary Years Programme (PYP) experience for our Junior School, starting in the 2026-27 academic year on a permanent, full-time basis. In a community prioritizing social-emotional learning, you will collaborate with a passionate team, including the Head of the Junior School, Assistant Heads, and PYP Coordinators.

Key Accountabilities

  • Create a supportive class environment focused on social-emotional learning to inspire student growth.
  • Motivate students to develop essential skills, attitudes, and knowledge for their future education.
  • Establish positive relationships with parents, faculty, and staff.
  • Plan and deliver the IB PYP and Ministry of Education curriculum, ensuring differentiation for physical education and health units.
  • Develop long-range plans and integrate physical education into units of inquiry and lesson plans (JK-Gr 6), focusing on inquiry-based learning.
  • Create programs of inquiry, unit plans, and lesson plans, integrating IB PYP aspects with a focus on SEL, DEI, and inquiry-based learning.
  • Maintain accurate records as required by the Ministry, IBO, and school guidelines.
  • Communicate student progress regularly to students, colleagues, and parents through reports and conferences.
  • Stay updated with best practices in the subject area and teaching methodologies through professional development.
  • Actively participate in faculty and division meetings and collaborate with course teams for curriculum review.

Physical Education Specific Responsibilities

  • Promote athletics and physical activity within the school.
  • Coach athletic teams each term and participate in coaching a sport for Fall, Winter, and Spring seasons.
  • Plan and deliver the Junior School intramurals program.
  • Organize and lead physical education-related events, such as Track and Field Day.

Candidate Profile

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field, with additional qualifications in Physical Education.
  • Ontario College of Teachers certification or equivalent with Junior/Primary division qualifications.
  • Three years of equivalent experience preferred.
  • Current Lifesaving Society Swim and Lifesaving Instructor certificate preferred.
  • Experience coaching sports at the Primary and Junior level.
  • Experience with and knowledge of the IB curriculum is a strong asset.
  • Proficiency with relevant technology for educational programs and communication.

Target Hiring Range

Placement on the Branksome Hall Faculty Salary Grid is based on applicable teaching experience, education level, and Additional Qualifications (AQs). The grid ranges from $70,903.08 – $101,270.67 for up to 6 years of experience and $101,615.33 – $134,998.82 for over 6 years of experience.
