Job Description
Head of Growth Engineering, Token & Marketplace at Braintrust
3 MONTH CONTRACT TO HIRE
$170-$200 total comp
What This Role Actually Is
Braintrust is a 2M+ person talent marketplace powered by the BTRST token. The BTRST token has the potential to be a unique incentive that drives growth (talent community and business) and talent engagement.
We’re looking for a Growth Engineer to:
- Make BTRST tangible, valuable, and exciting on-platform
- Design and ship token-powered growth loops that drive real marketplace behavior
- Build public-facing token narrative and growth surfaces
- Operate like a team of five using AI-native tools
This is not a paid media management job. This is not a traditional marketing role.
You are building growth systems inside the product.
Your Mission
Turn BTRST from “a token people vaguely know exists” into “A core part of why talent joins, participates, and stays.”
What You’ll Own
Token Visibility & Product Surfaces
You will:
- Ship a live BTRST dashboard inside the marketplace
- Make token value real (price chart, historical performance, earnings visibility)
- Build educational flows that explain BTRST in plain English
- Create public leaderboards, earnings milestones, gamification layers
- Connect token ownership to Braintrust value creation (buybacks, revenue, network growth)
This is part product, part narrative, part behavioral economics.
You’ll vibe-code these surfaces yourself.
Token-Powered Growth Loops
You will design and test incentive systems tied to real behaviors:
- Completing approval steps
- Passing assessments
- Referring talent
- Referring clients
- Completing projects
- Community participation
You’ll answer questions like:
- What is the token cost per activated contributor?
- What reward structure increases retention without attracting low-quality actors?
- How do we prevent gaming and abuse?
- What incentives create long-term alignment vs short-term spikes?
You will ship experiments weekly.
Marketplace Activation & Retention
Design lifecycle systems from:
Signup → Approval → Activation → Engagement → Retention → Referral
You will:
- Build token-triggered milestone rewards
- Test gamified progression systems
- Run cohort-based experiments
- Design referral loops that don’t poison quality
- Quantify impact, not just clicks
Public Token Narrative
Externally, you will:
- Develop and publish clear, non-crypto explanations of BTRST
- Connect token buybacks to value creation
- Build lightweight public token microsites
- Ship social content regularly (Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.)
- Make token ownership intellectually compelling to non-crypto audiences
You won’t rely on agencies. You ship.
Operate Like a Growth Lab
You are expected to:
- Use Claude, Cursor, Lovable, and AI-native app builders daily
- Ship experiments without waiting on design/engineering
- Automate your own reporting
- Build internal growth tools and dashboards
- Move fast and clean up later
If you need a sprint planning doc to launch a leaderboard, this role isn’t for you.
90-Day Outcomes
By Day 90, you will have:
Token Surfaces Live
- BTRST dashboard v1 shipped
- Clear earnings visibility for users
- Token education flows live
Growth Experiments Running
- At least 6 shipped token incentive experiments
- Measured token cost per incremental activation
- Cohort tracking live
Behavioral Impact
- Measurable increase in:
- Approval completion rate
- Referral participation
- Activated contributors
- Retained active contributors
Public Narrative Launched
- Token explanation page live
- Consistent social publishing cadence
- At least one public token-focused campaign
AI-Leveraged Ops
- Automated weekly growth reporting
- Agent-assisted experiment tracking
- Repeatable test cadence
Who You Are
You likely:
- Have built and shipped product experiments yourself
- Have used Claude / Cursor / Lovable to launch real things
- Understand marketplace dynamics
- Think in incentives and loops, not campaigns
- Write clearly and persuasively
- Move uncomfortably fast
- Prefer shipping imperfect experiments over debating hypotheticals
- Are comfortable owning real economic impact
You Are Not
- A media buyer optimizing CPM
- A brand marketer running campaigns
- A crypto hype marketer
- A pure PM who doesn’t ship
- Someone who needs a design team to execute
Skills That Matter
- Full-funnel growth experimentation
- Behavioral incentive design
- Cohort and retention analysis
- AI-native product building
- Landing page + micro-app deployment
- Narrative clarity around financial mechanisms
- Marketplace quality control intuition
Nice to Have
- Experience with token, points, or reward systems
- Marketplace growth experience
- Two-sided network experience
- Ops automation product exposure
Why This Is Interesting
You get to:
- Design economic incentives at scale
- Build product surfaces fast
- Tie real economic value to user behavior
- Operate as a high-leverage growth lab
- Work directly with leadership
This role is for builders.
If this feels like marketing to you, it’s not the right fit. If this feels like designing a mini-economy inside a network, we should talk.
