About the Role
The Operations Automation Specialist will function as a technical specialist with expertise in physical and digital technologies and their practical application in industry, including automation systems, IIOT, Process Control, Network security, and Maintenance and Reliability. You will join a squad within the wider IIOT team in Oil and Gas Technology, working with groundbreaking technologies and their real-world applications. This role involves close collaboration with other technology experts and business partners to research, design, test, and detail IoT solutions for business challenges across various domains such as Production, Projects, Subsurface & Wells, Crisis, Renewables, and Refining.
What You Will Deliver
- Identify and implement sensor and monitoring platforms to ensure timely and accurate data delivery.
- Provide solutions for connectivity issues between networks and platforms for IIOT solutions.
- Collaborate with architecture and networks teams to ingest data into bp systems and utilize cloud platforms for IoT data management.
- Design, code, and test features for IIOT and Robotics solutions, integrating physical sensors, robotics, network gateways, and emerging technologies with the bp cloud platform.
- Perform end-to-end testing to ensure consistent performance before deployment and collaborate with DevOps for efficient cloud deployment.
- Work within an agile environment, embracing sprint methodologies and actively participating in prioritization reviews with innovative suggestions.
- Collaborate with multi-functional teams to develop and integrate solutions for diverse IIOT and Robotics applications in the Oil and Gas Industry.
- Implement solutions for remote device management and monitoring, and promptly resolve IIOT and Robotics system issues.
- Ensure alignment with bp Digital Security measures to protect IoT devices and data, and adhere to safety standards.
- Comply with privacy regulations, industry standards, and import/export guidelines for hardware and software.
- Participate in securing bp's intellectual property through patent filings and publications.
- Install, maintain, and support systems for physical test facilities simulating network and hardware field environments.
- Identify robotic platforms capable of performing required movements, meeting area classification requirements, and integrating with bp's cloud platform.
- Mentor and train junior members of the Operations Automation team.
What You Will Need to Be Successful
Experience and Qualifications:
- Proficient knowledge of sensors and integration experience in on-premise and cloud networks.
- Required experience in end-to-end implementation of IIOT solutions adhering to Industry 4.0 standards.
- Experience with the application of Robotics Technology (quadrupeds, crawlers, drones, etc.) in remote monitoring is a plus.
- Expertise in automation systems and a firm grasp of IIoT architecture and principles.
- Experience with Field Testing and Proof of Concept deployments, including documentation and performance monitoring of new sensors and systems.
- In-depth understanding of computer programming, network security, and knowledge of machine learning and AI.
- Proficiency in multiple programming languages such as Python and Embedded-C.
- Knowledge of device and data security.
- Strong ability to work and collaborate effectively with others.
- Good communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in a similar role.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, or Instrumentation Engineering.
- Ability and readiness to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing, collaborative environment.
