Role Summary

The Managing Director, Deputy General Counsel serves as the firm’s senior legal advisor on prudential banking regulation and supervisory engagement. Reporting directly to the General Counsel, you will provide strategic legal advice across BNY’s global businesses, lead multidisciplinary teams in regulatory, M&A and real estate matters, and support governance frameworks and transaction structuring.

Key Responsibilities

  • Bank Regulation & Supervision: Advise on U.S. and international banking regulations and supervise examinations and policy design.
  • Mergers & Acquisitions: Lead legal support for significant M&A, including due diligence and deal negotiation.
  • Real Estate: Oversee general legal advice, negotiations, and sustainability clauses for global real estate operations.
  • Leadership & Team Management: Mentor a high-performing team while fostering collaboration and innovation using AI-driven legal technologies.

Qualifications

15+ years’ legal experience with expertise in bank regulation, supervision, M&A, and real estate legal matters. Demonstrated leadership in multi-jurisdictional regulatory exams, ability to manage complex legal transactions, strong analytical and communication skills, and a proven record in mentoring teams. Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and admission to the New York or relevant Bar.
