Job Description
About The Role
Are you a forward-thinking, technically fluent UX leader who thrives at the intersection of design, engineering, and innovation? As our Technical UX Lead, you will define how we modernize our digital experience through advanced interaction design, AI-enabled workflows, and tight collaboration with technology teams.
You will shape the future of our UX practice—elevating our design processes, building new technical capabilities, and empowering the team to adopt AI confidently and responsibly. You will advocate for modern interaction patterns, influence how front-end experiences are built, and ensure our design vision is executed with precision and scalability.
This role is ideal for someone who loves solving complex systems problems, believes design and engineering should work as one team, and sees AI as a multiplier rather than a replacement for creativity.
Responsibilities
Create, Build, and Innovate
- Lead the integration of AI into our UX practice by architecting end-to-end, production-ready workflows — including model selection, prompt engineering standards, data-handling protocols, evaluation criteria, and integration points with design and development tooling — and establish technical frameworks, role-based training, and performance guardrails for AI-assisted research, ideation, prototyping, and documentation.
- Develop and communicate a forward-looking UX technology strategy, identifying opportunities for modern interaction patterns, motion, micro-interactions, and advanced front-end capabilities.
- Facilitate deep collaboration sessions across design, product, and engineering to translate business requirements and technical constraints into intuitive, scalable experiences.
- Create IA and UX artifacts—concept models, journey maps, process flows, wireframes, prototypes, interaction specifications—that communicate intent clearly to both design and development teams.
- Partner with engineering to validate feasibility, uncover constraints early, and ensure that implementation aligns with design intent and user needs.
- Conduct UX audits of existing flows, technical implementations, and user behaviour data to identify opportunities for modernization, simplification, and improved usability.
- Stay current on emerging technologies, interaction paradigms, AI tools, accessibility standards, and design best practices to continuously modernize our digital experience.
- Collaborate closely with the Design System team to ensure new interaction patterns, behaviors, and components align with system evolution and technical standards.
Lead, Influence, and Elevate
- Act as the primary bridge between UX and Technology, establishing effective ways of working, and establishing shared ownership models across teams.
- Drive the strategic UX vision for technically complex journeys and align with Product and Technology leaders to set goals, define direction, and measure impact.
- Introduce and champion best practices for technical design delivery—including state documentation, interaction specifications, accessibility annotations, and behaviour rules for development.
- Present UX strategies, AI-enabled workflows, and technical design recommendations to leadership and cross-functional teams with clarity and confidence.
- Coach, mentor, and upskill the UX team—cultivating technical fluency, AI literacy, and collaborative habits that accelerate design quality and execution.
- Improve cross-functional processes by identifying inefficiencies, recommending new tools or frameworks, and piloting modernized ways of working across design and engineering.
- Advocate for customer-centric, modern, and technically grounded design thinking throughout the organization.
About You
- Extensive experience as a UX Designer, UX Technologist, UX Engineer, Interaction Designer, or similar hybrid technical-design role.
- Experience working with advanced prototyping tools or code-based prototyping workflows.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating leadership on complex, technically challenging digital experiences, showcasing interaction design depth and technical fluency.
- Proven experience partnering closely with engineering teams—speaking their language, understanding constraints, and shaping front-end implementation.
- Experience introducing or operationalizing AI-based design workflows such as AI-assisted prototyping accelerators.
- Advanced proficiency with Figma (components, states, variants, prototyping) and collaboration tools such as FigJam.
- Strong knowledge with front-end technologies (HTML/CSS/JS), design tokens, interaction states, and component logic sufficient to evaluate feasibility and communicate effectively with developers.
- Strong understanding of accessibility and inclusive design; able to embed accessibility expectations into technical specifications.
- Experience with analytics, instrumentation thinking, and using data to assess UX performance and measure design impact.
- Skilled at navigating complex stakeholder environments with strong communication, facilitation, and influencing abilities.
- Exceptional problem-solving abilities, thoughtfulness, curiosity, technical empathy, and a drive toward continuous improvement.
- Previous experience leading design team upskilling or training initiatives—particularly in new technologies such as AI.
- Experience in organizations undergoing modernization or platform transformations.
- Knowledge of motion principles, micro-interactions, animation timing, or advanced interactive behaviours.
- Familiarity with design-to-code tools, front-end architecture conversations, or component API discussions.
