Role Overview
The Senior Manager, Learning Experience Design plans, designs, and develops clear, engaging, and compelling learning and performance-focused solutions that enhance retention and knowledge transfer. This role applies design expertise to create solutions and creative strategies that achieve visible and measurable improvements to individual and group performance, development, productivity, and business results. The Senior Manager works on a variety of projects, initiatives, and platforms/mediums to support the execution of business strategies within required timelines, budgets, and quality output standards.

Provides strategic input into business decisions as a trusted advisor, making recommendations to senior leaders on strategy and new initiatives based on an in-depth understanding of the business. Acts as a subject matter expert on relevant regulations and policies, and may network with industry contacts to gain competitive insights and best practices. The role involves influencing and negotiating to achieve business objectives, identifying emerging issues and trends to inform decision-making, and managing resources to lead the execution of strategic initiatives. They help determine business priorities and the best sequence for strategy execution, conducting independent analysis to resolve strategic issues, and serving as a prime subject matter expert for internal/external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Designs and produces regular and ad-hoc reports and dashboards, monitoring and tracking performance to address any issues.
- Collaborates across BMO to develop communication strategies and ensure consistency of messaging to positively influence or change behavior.
- Builds change management plans of varying scope, leading or participating in activities including readiness assessments, planning, stakeholder management, execution, evaluation, and sustainment of initiatives.
- Leads or participates in defining communication plans, developing tailored messaging, and identifying appropriate distribution channels.
- Leads the execution of operational programs, assessing and adapting as needed to ensure quality.
- Provides day-to-day management of assigned projects to ensure objectives are met within budget and timelines.
- Develops effective project plans for building learning programs and curriculum to close identified gaps.
- Develops and manages business/group programs, reviewing for effectiveness, considering industry trends, and recommending enhancements.
- Develops solutions and makes recommendations based on business strategy and stakeholder needs.
- Provides advice and guidance on design challenges, assesses performance gaps, and recommends solutions on principles, programs, approaches, and mediums.
- Designs and develops solutions that advance human performance and drive business impact with a customer-focus mindset.
- Conducts design analysis, scopes project objectives, and analyzes target audience expectations.
- Defines learning objectives, describes tasks and activities, estimates resource requirements, and creates detailed design structures.
- Writes, storyboards, and edits learning and performance support interventions.
- Ensures learning solutions are instructionally sound, developed on time, within scope and budget.
- Maintains an external network to understand the competitive landscape and keep abreast of industry developments, new technology solutions, and trends.
- Breaks down strategic problems, analyzes data and information to provide insights and recommendations.
- Participates in vendor relationship management and networks with industry contacts for insights.
- Builds effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders, participating or leading multiple internal projects.
- Operates at a group/enterprise-wide level, serving as a specialist resource to senior leaders and stakeholders.
- Applies expertise and creative thinking to address unique or ambiguous situations and find solutions to complex, non-routine problems.
- Implements changes in response to shifting trends.
Qualifications
- Typically 7+ years of relevant experience and a post-secondary degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Adult Learning accreditation is required.
- In-depth / Expert knowledge of accessibility principles/practices and their implications for design and development.
- In-depth / Expert knowledge of adult learning theory, instructional methodologies, technology-enabled design, and learning methods.
- Experience in the design and development of training for multiple delivery methods.
- In-depth / Expert knowledge of web development processes and familiarity with authoring tools.
- In-depth / Expert in Design Thinking.
- Seasoned professional with a combination of education, experience, and industry knowledge.
- In-depth / Expert verbal & written communication skills.
