Job Description
The Opportunity
BMO Capital Markets is seeking a seasoned professional to join its Fixed Income team as VP or Director, Government Finance. This pivotal role aims to deepen BMO’s leadership in the Canadian public sector debt markets, strengthening relationships with issuers and expanding the firm's impact across the fixed income landscape. The successful candidate will lead relationship management and syndication efforts with government and government-sponsored issuers, while collaborating extensively across trading and sales to deliver best-in-class solutions for clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Client Leadership: Serve as the primary relationship manager for public sector issuers, delivering daily market insights, pricing guidance, and strategic advice.
- Market Intelligence: Provide timely and actionable market commentary, relative value analysis, and investor feedback to clients and internal stakeholders.
- Syndication Strategy: Drive syndication efforts for new issues, coordinating with internal teams to optimize execution and book building.
- Platform Collaboration: Partner with trading, sales, and other product teams to identify cross-platform opportunities and enhance client outcomes, acting as a central point of coordination for seamless deal execution.
- Business Growth: Contribute to the strategic direction of the Government Finance business, identifying growth opportunities and revenue drivers.
What You Bring
- 7-10 years of experience in Debt Capital Markets, with a minimum of 3-5 years in a syndicate or execution-focused role.
- Strong understanding of the Canadian bond market.
- Deep relationships across government and government-sponsored entities, as well as the institutional investor community.
- Strong understanding of fixed income products, including derivatives and cross-currency swap mechanics, is beneficial.
- Demonstrated ability to manage primary transactions, including book-building, investor communication, and allocation/hedging processes.
- Proven ability to develop and execute client marketing strategies.
- Advanced skills in Excel, Bloomberg, and market analytics platforms.
- A proactive, analytical mindset.
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degrees or certifications are an asset.
Compensation
The base salary range for this role is CAD $150,000–$175,000, commensurate with experience and level (VP vs Director), plus a discretionary bonus. BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, and other perks and rewards, along with health insurance, tuition reimbursement, accident and life insurance, and retirement savings plans. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated, and for commission roles, the listed salary represents the expected target for the first year.
