Role Overview

As an Emergency Veterinary Assistant, you will triage emergency cases as they arrive and assist DVMs with crafting and reviewing estimates as needed. This role also involves performing diagnostics such as radiographs and lab work, setting patients up in the ICU or Inpatient ward, discharging patients, and managing client communication.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to stable patients in accordance with hospital standards of care and core values.
• Report patient signalment, problem list, and treatment plan during nursing rounds.
• Apply knowledge of pharmacology and basic medical math for medication administration.
• Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects, and monitor therapeutic response appropriately.
• Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Perform phlebotomy.
• Perform physical exams, accurately counting heart rate, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate, and effort.
• Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications.
• Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrate proficiency in assigned roles.
