About This Role
This fixed-term contract opportunity is for an Associate, Client Core COO Risk & Control Officer within BlackRock's EMEA Client Business. The role is central to maintaining a robust business governance platform and maximizing BlackRock’s commercial impact.
Business Unit Overview
The EMEA Client Business manages approximately $2,800bn AUM, generating over $5.4bn in annual revenue, which accounts for 24% of BlackRock’s total AUM and 30% of its total annual revenue. This unit comprises around 550 staff across 20 countries, covering Sales & Relationship Management, Business Development, Marketing, and Country/Regional Management, all supported by a central Core COO function.
Department Overview
The Core COO team, consisting of 20 FTEs in London and Budapest, is vital for the effective operation of the EMEA Client Business. Key responsibilities include:
- Business Management & Oversight: Driving governance, resource & financial management, risk management, and oversight of sales conduct to ensure compliant revenue growth.
- Change: Implementing regulatory, operating model, and client projects.
- Risk & Controls: Developing and overseeing the operational risk and control framework, ensuring strong internal controls, proactive risk management, and alignment with firm-wide standards.
The team collaborates extensively with various internal partners, including Regional Exec, BPI, Legal and Compliance, Tech & Ops, EII, Investments, APG, HR, FP&A, and Finance, to support BlackRock’s mission.
The Successful Candidate Will
- Build strong relationships with Sales teams to resolve complex problems, demonstrating commercial awareness.
- Engage with EMEA client business leaders to drive key initiatives and collaborate with internal partners like Investment teams, Compliance, Finance, Marketing, Operations, and Transformation Office.
- Monitor EMEA sales teams’ adherence to sales processes and produce high-quality, actionable management information identifying risks and proposing solutions.
- Liaise with Legal & Compliance (L&C) for queries, novel issues, and attestations.
- Respond to Internal Audits and Compliance Testing programs, executing remediation plans when applicable.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the general operating framework for the EMEA Client Business, including its Operating Manual, regular certifications, and conduct reviews of Aladdin permissions.
- Perform or oversee regular testing and monitoring of sales team processes to validate compliant behaviors.
- Deliver periodic and reactive process and procedure training to sales teams.
- Conduct periodic reviews and updates of relevant policies, training materials, and procedures.
- Produce high-quality management information for departmental governance.
- Detect key process issues and risks, identifying scalable solutions.
- Support day-to-day business management by monitoring and coordinating key approval processes.
- Become a subject matter expert for business processes and a point of contact for sales teams.
- Provide support for MiFID-related activities, overseeing processes and driving system/process improvements.
- Identify and lead projects to enhance team efficiency through process improvements and automation.
Knowledge/Experience
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a related field.
- University degree in business administration, economics, finance, or a related field.
- A high-energy, self-motivated individual comfortable in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Excel & PowerPoint (ability to navigate and interpret multiple datasets is a bonus).
