BioSpace has an exciting opportunity for an Editor to join a small but mighty team of editors bringing daily news and analysis to a growing audience and subscriber base as we strive to further build audience loyalty through quality journalism. The newest member of the editorial team will cover major industry stories and topics in the biotech world and help evolve BioSpace’s editorial strategy. Reporting to Managing Editor Jef Akst, this role will be responsible for proactively identifying opportunities to help differentiate BioSpace’s coverage. For over 30 years, BioSpace has provided essential insights, opportunities and tools to connect innovative organizations and talented professionals who advance health and quality of life across the globe. Our team operates with a fun, entrepreneurial style that combines our passion and high-energy with an aggressive vision of growing BioSpace.

The role will be fully remote or hybrid.

Key Responsibilities of the Editor

• Monitor news-gathering operations and keep abreast of industry news flow.
• Write multiple bylines per week about biopharma business dealings and update related trackers.
• Proactively identify and recommend enterprising story ideas to personally pursue or assign to another writer.
• Edit and proofread stories written by colleagues and freelancers.
• Help curate and execute BioSpace’s daily and weekly newsletters.
• Track newsletter engagement and site traffic to inform future coverage, with the goal of growing readership/subscriber base.
• Provide press coverage on key industry events (may require travel 2–3 times a year).
• Participate in panel moderation and other speaking engagements at such events as well as virtually.
• Maintain an active LinkedIn presence that builds BioSpace brand awareness.
• Develop and maintain relationships with regulatory experts, investment analysts, and other key industry sources to provide commentary and story leads.
• Ensure that BioSpace editorial standards are maintained.

Position Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, or the life sciences; advanced degree preferred.
• 4+ years of journalism experience covering business dealings, preferably within the biopharma industry; editing experience required.
• Ability to multi-task and thrive in a fast-paced, online publishing environment.
• Impeccable writing and organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Knowledge of the AP Style Guide and copyediting.
• Strong communication skills.
• Proven ability to develop and cultivate relationships with industry sources.
• Proactive approach to identifying editorial opportunities.
• Working knowledge of SEO fundamentals and digital publishing.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate freely with team members.
