About the role
About BetterHelp
BetterHelp is on a mission to remove the traditional barriers to therapy and make mental health care more accessible to everyone. Founded in 2013, we are now the world’s largest online therapy service, providing affordable and convenient therapy across the globe. Our network of over 30,000 licensed therapists has helped millions of people take ownership of their mental health and change their lives forever. As the unmet need for mental health services continues to grow, BetterHelp is committed to being part of the solution.
As Director, Corporate Counsel at BetterHelp, you’ll join a diverse team of licensed clinicians, engineers, product pros, creatives, marketers, and business leaders who share a passion for expanding access to therapy. We deeply invest in our team’s well-being and professional development, because we know that business and individual growth go hand-in-hand. At BetterHelp, you’ll carve your own path, make an immediate impact, and be challenged every day – with a supportive community behind you the whole way.
What we are looking for:
We're seeking a business-oriented, proactive, and collaborative attorney to join BetterHelp’s Legal team to support both our BetterHelp Business (B2B) and Direct-to-Consumer (D2C) operations.
The ideal candidate will have experience in the B2B partnership landscape, including employee assistance programs (EAPs), health plans, and enterprise partnerships. You’ll play a key role in structuring, negotiating, and implementing partnership and marketing agreements, ensuring that our B2B offerings and D2C platform work seamlessly together.
This role requires someone who can think strategically about how to operationalize partnerships, translating legal agreements into effective business processes, and who thrives in a cross-functional environment working with sales, product, marketing, and engineering. A background in healthcare or digital health contracting, particularly in models that blend enterprise and consumer delivery, is a plus.
What you will do:
- Support our B2B team by drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of B2B and enterprise agreements, including Master Services Agreements, Business Associate Agreements, reseller, referral, and vendor agreements.
- Support and advise on EAP, employer, and health plan partnership arrangements, helping structure offerings that extend BetterHelp’s D2C care model to new populations through enterprise partnerships.
- Collaborate with marketing, partnerships, product, and business development teams.
- Negotiate marketing, sponsorship, and affiliate agreements, including campaigns with influencers, content creators, and third-party wellness platforms, ensuring compliance with healthcare and advertising regulations.
- Partner with sales and operations to design and operationalize new partnership frameworks, ensuring that legal, business, and technical requirements are fully aligned.
- Work cross-functionally with product, engineering, and compliance teams to ensure contractual commitments are supported by product functionality and service delivery standards.
- Provide legal guidance on data privacy, information security, and healthcare regulatory compliance, including HIPAA, FTC, and state-specific health and marketing laws.
- Monitor and interpret evolving laws, regulations, and industry standards impacting digital health, mental health parity, telehealth, and enterprise wellness.
What you will NOT do:
- You will NOT worry about "runway", "cash left", or "how much time we have until the next round". We have the startup DNA but we're fully backed and funded, all the way to success.
- You will NOT be confined to your "job". You will get involved in product, marketing, business strategy, and almost everything we do.
- You will NOT be bogged down by office politics, ego, or bad attitude. Only positive, pleasure-to-work-with people are allowed here!
- You will NOT get yourself burned out. We work hard but we believe in maintaining a sustainable work/life balance. Really.
Remote Work Policy:
Yes. We operate on PST and candidates in any time zone are welcome to apply. We ask employees to travel to our San Jose, CA office up to three times per year plus one company-wide offsite to collaborate in person and strengthen working relationships. Travel expenses are covered and reasonable accommodations are made for those under unique circumstances who cannot travel.

- 7- 10 years of relevant legal experience.
- 3+ years of healthcare related legal work experience.
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited U.S. law school and active member in good standing of a U.S. state bar.
- You must be egoless, value collaboration, and be ready to put in the hard work to accomplish whatever the job demands.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills is a must.
- Ability to provide practical, risk-balanced legal advice in an ambiguous, fast-moving environment.
- Collaborative and adaptable mindset with a focus on enabling business growth while maintaining compliance.
- Experience working in a hybrid organization offering both D2C and B2B services and/or digital health platform is preferred, but not required.
- Digital and privacy experience is a plus.
Benefits:
- Remote work with regular in-person bonding experiences sponsored by the company
- Competitive compensation
