Pharmacist

Schedule: 7 on/7off Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs: 10p-7a, Fri, Sat, Sun: 9p-9a or 8p-8a.
Job Summary:
Supports the mission of the department by providing pharmaceutical care to all patients at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Needham. This includes:
- Reviewing electronic and written orders to ensure appropriate medication, route, dose, and dosing interval has been prescribed.
- Interfacing with the healthcare team regarding medication orders.
- Supervising support staff to ensure correct medication preparation and compliance with regulations.
- Serving as preceptors for pharmacy students, ensuring a high-quality educational experience.
- Serving as the pharmacy liaison on assigned committees, acting as an expert in pharmaceutical care, drug information, and pharmacy operations.
- Serving as the drug information expert, providing complete and timely information, inservices, drug information sheets, and drug reviews.
- Participating in departmental and organizational quality assurance and performance improvement projects.
Responsibilities:
- Clinically reviews all medication orders for safety and appropriateness, including drug selection, allergies, dose, route, diagnosis, interactions, and patient age.
- Dispenses medication to automated dispensing cabinets (ADC) on nursing units, prioritizing patient safety.
- Reviews orders entered by Licensed Independent Prescribers for appropriateness.
- Enters written orders into the Pharmacy computer system, considering administration by nursing staff.
- Supervises pharmacy technicians, graduate pharmacists, pharmacy interns, and PharmD students to meet patient needs.
- Educates department members and the healthcare team on safe medication practices.
Education:
- Bachelor degree in Pharmacy required.
- Doctoral degree in pharmacy preferred.
Experience:
- 1-3 years related work experience required in clinical hospital experience.
License/Certification(s):
- License Massachusetts Pharmacist required.
Pay Range:
$57.00 - $76.71 hourly
The pay range listed is the base hourly wage. Actual compensation is determined by factors including seniority, education, training, experience, certifications, geography, responsibilities, and other applicable factors. Compensation may exceed the base rate due to shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime, and other additional pay practices.
