Department Description

The BIDMC Clinical Research Center is an overnight and ambulatory research unit providing staff, environment, and resources to conduct medical research studies across clinical disciplines. It offers research nursing, specialized testing, a research bionutrition program and research coordination assistance using modern study design, data acquisition and analysis techniques while upholding high standards of patient care.

Job Summary

The Medical Assistant - Research collaborates with the investigator team to provide clinical support during research protocols. The role involves extensive participant and team interaction, performing clinical activities such as vital signs measurement, EKGs, phlebotomy, lab tests, specimen collection, scheduling follow-up tests, and assisting with routine procedures under the supervision of research investigators, physicians, and nurses.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Perform vital signs, EKGs, phlebotomy, and lab tests.
  • Monitor study participants and manage physiologic equipment.
  • Collect accurate participant information and communicate with staff.
  • Schedule follow-up tests and appointments; escort participants as needed.
  • Collaborate with RNs to execute participant care plans and maintain safety protocols.
  • Attend training sessions and participate in team meetings.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in a Healthcare related field or Medical Assistant certification.
  • BLS certification (or to be obtained within 60 days of hire).
  • 0-1 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with computer systems including web-based applications and Microsoft Office.

Additional Information

This role may involve rotating shifts, weekend, holiday, and on-call responsibilities. As part of Beth Israel Lahey Health, all staff must be vaccinated against influenza as a condition of employment.
