Role Overview

The UKI Infrastructure and Platform team provides core services to our product and technology teams, enabling their delivery and execution independence.

As a Senior Platform Engineer at Betfair Romania Development, your role is crucial for maintaining and evolving the organization's technology infrastructure to enhance consumer enablement. Responsibilities span platform design, development, and maintenance, system monitoring and optimization, capacity planning, infrastructure automation, security and compliance, and incident management and support. You will also mentor team members and collaborate across teams. The team operates a 24/7 operational support unit with on-call availability.

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities

• Demonstrates Excellent Knowledge of Infrastructure & Platforms Systems: Applies comprehensive understanding of group engineering systems management, designing, implementing, and maintaining the Flutter UKI platform infrastructure, including developing new platforms and enhancing existing ones to meet evolving business needs.
• Driving Improvements: Proactively drives and contributes to opportunities for process improvement, technology adoption, and enhancing platform reliability, performance, and security, as well as contributing to cloud cost management plans.
• Automation Contributor: Actively seeks and spearheads opportunities to implement automation solutions and practices to reduce reliance on manual processes and promotes self-service.
• Ownership: Exhibits ownership of squad deliverables, demonstrating responsibility and accountability. Leads and takes charge of a work stream or incident, including creation and maintenance of all relevant documentation.
• Mentorship: Acts as a mentor to other squad members, actively sharing knowledge and teaching skills.
• Role Modelling: Serves as a role model both behaviorally and in terms of capabilities, inspiring Associate/Graduate Engineers through actions.
• Consistency: Demonstrates a highly performant delivery approach, providing a reliable and solid pair of hands in all tasks.
• Stakeholder Management: Exhibits comfort in engaging with non-technical stakeholders, showcasing effective communication and high-level engagement.
• Collaboration: Demonstrates effective communication and collaboration with other teams, such as development and operations, working closely on initiatives, embracing and providing feedback with a positive attitude.

Skills, Capabilities & Experience Required

• Strong knowledge of Platform Engineering Principles.
• Strong knowledge of using the supported products in a production environment.
• CDK.
• Kubernetes/Docker.
• Networking.
• AWS.
• Git.
• Jenkins (or similar CI system).
• Configuration Management (Chef, Ansible).
• General Linux operations.
• Infrastructure Specific Products (Virtualization, Storage technologies, Hardware appliances).
• Aptitude for evaluating and embracing new technologies and tooling.
• Vast experience with managing high-load, high-performance applications.
• Strong AWS experience supporting cloud-native infrastructure through tooling and automation.
• Able to drive the ways of working and structure of the squad developing engineers.
• Delegating tasks and serving as a reliable deputy when required.
• Identify and fill skills gaps.
