Supervisor, Fragrance Compound
Bell Flavors & Fragrances is seeking a dedicated and experienced Supervisor to oversee our Fragrance Compound operations. This role involves managing a team, ensuring adherence to quality and safety standards, and driving continuous improvement.
Job Details
The essential duties and requirements of the position include but are not limited to:
- Supervise a team of up to 20 subordinates.
- Provide working knowledge of compounding procedures and basic chemistry to train and counsel employees on proper compounding techniques, troubleshoot deviations, and prevent their occurrence.
- Demonstrate working knowledge of various fragrance materials, including wet, dry, viscous, flammable, hot, and hazardous substances, with expertise in their proper handling and safe, effective use.
- Initiate, develop, and support continuous improvement projects focused on manufacturing effectiveness, material handling, and equipment cleaning.
- Drive continuous improvement in cGMP, safety, allergen, SSOP, EFfCI, and ISO guidelines, as well as internal metrics for first-time right production, on-time shipping, and lead time reduction.
- Oversee compounding and material handling operations, including product manufacture according to special instructions, inventory control of raw and stock materials, bin transfers, warehouse locations, drum management, filling, and sampling of finished goods.
- Ensure accurate inventory control of materials, maintaining lot numbers, warehouse locations, bins, drum labeling, stock fragrance, and transfer containers to support Material Management and inventory control initiatives.
- Coordinate Material Handling duties with Receiving and Warehouse Management for effective material movement and management, including ingredient locations, stock rotation, and material management in racks and storage rooms.
- Adhere to approved manufacturing protocols, record-keeping, and methods of operation, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), site regulations, departmental rules, and required regulatory procedures, log books, and supporting data.
- Maintain the UltiPro time management database for fragrance production employees, including scheduling, approving, and verifying timesheets weekly.
- Review and maintain the open order report, production logs, and attend daily production meetings to ensure on-time production and shipment needs are met.
- Communicate with planning and other departments to ensure appropriate stock levels are maintained and planned.
- Provide backup for material handlers as needed.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the manager.
Salary Range
$65,000 - $85,000 annually
Compliance and Quality Standards
Work within and be responsible for adherence to cGMP, safety, allergen, Halal, kosher, SSOP, SQF, EFfCI, and ISO 9001:2015 guidelines.
Education, Training, and Experience Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- College education preferred.
- Forklift certification required.
- Yellow Belt – Six Sigma Lean Training preferred.
- Working knowledge of current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and OSHA safety regulations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to read and write English.
- Knowledge of the metric system and conversions is required.
- Ability to understand safety labels, manufacturing instructions, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), scale readouts, correspondence, labels, and code numbers.
- Ability to follow verbal instructions.
- Proficiency in basic mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) and conversion from metric to English units for volume and weight.
- Strong reasoning ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Ability to perform tasks involving periods of standing, walking, reaching, and bending.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Working knowledge of EFfCI, ISO 9001:2015, and SQF is required. Training will be provided for carrying out tasks essential to the implementation and effective operation of the SQF, ISO 9001:2015, GMP, HACCP, and EFfCI systems.
