Job Description
About National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF)
The National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) is Australia’s leading not-for-profit organisation funding world-class breast cancer research towards a vision of Zero Deaths from breast cancer. With a trusted brand, strong national community and a bold vision, NBCF is driving real progress through evidence-based research and innovation, supported by powerful human stories that demonstrate the impact of research.
As the Community Engagement Manager, you will play a pivotal role in deepening NBCF’s connection with individuals, supporters, and those directly or indirectly affected by breast cancer. You will lead NBCF’s long-standing Community Ambassador Program and the development and delivery of a new Brand Ambassador Program. This new program will build a community of influential individuals with an authentic connection to the cause who can help expand awareness of NBCF’s purpose and vision among highly engaged audiences.
Working closely with marketing, fundraising and external partners, you’ll create meaningful relationships, manage sensitive stories with care, and design programs that inspire action and connection.
In This Role, You Will
Community Ambassador Program
- Manage and proactively engage with NBCF’s existing national Community Ambassador Program
- Manage organisation-wide media, content and speaking requests for Community Ambassadors
- Manage the yearly recruitment of new Community Ambassadors onto the program
- Select and manage Community Ambassadors for brand video and photo shoots to support content creation requirements
Brand Ambassador Program
- Define strategic framework, program objectives, impact measures and organisational alignment for the new Brand Ambassador Program
- Identify, recruit and support inaugural ambassadors
- Pilot and refine the program, capturing insights and measuring outcomes
- Create engagement plans covering storytelling, media, content and advocacy opportunities
About You
You’re an empathetic communicator with exceptional relationship-building skills and a deep understanding of how lived experience can inform, influence and inspire. You excel at managing multiple projects, navigating sensitive stories with care, and designing engagement programs that balance impact, trust and risk. You thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative and purpose-driven environment.
What You’ll Bring
- Tertiary qualifications in communications, marketing, PR, community development, social sciences or similar
- 3-5+ years’ experience in community engagement, stakeholder management or relationship-focused roles
- Experience designing and managing ambassador, advocacy or community programs end-to-end
- Strong judgement when managing lived experience stories, consent and reputational risk
- Strong cross-functional collaboration across marketing, fundraising, media and external partners
- Experience supporting storytelling, media engagement or content creation
- Strategic and analytical mindset with a data-informed approach
- Experience in the not-for-profit, health, research or purpose-driven sector
What’s on Offer
- A purpose-driven role shaping national community engagement
- Hybrid working arrangements, based in NBCF’s Sydney office
- Opportunity to design and launch a new national program from the ground up
