National Risk Management Specialist at BDO Canada

Your Opportunity

The Risk Management team at BDO is responsible for the development, execution and monitoring of the firm’s risk management and independence processes. We are seeking a specialist to join our dynamic team of professionals.

As a member of the Risk Management team, you will assist with the firm’s client and engagement acceptance/intake processes and provide support to our client facing professionals on these processes. This is a new role, and the following responsibilities represent the main areas of focus for this role that will be further shaped by the skills, experience, and strengths of the successful candidate, allowing for flexibility in how the position evolves to best support the team:

  • Assist in development, management and updating of internal client and engagement intake processes combining new technology and best practices
  • Review functional and design specifications to ensure full understanding of functionality.
  • Track improvement recommendations from the service lines to create a better user experience
  • Collaborate on updates to firm risk policies, processes, and tools, and intranet sites to ensure we continue to comply with BDO requirements both locally and globally
  • Provide guidance and training to client-serving teams on the completion of client and engagement onboarding processes, and corresponding conflict checking
  • Create a sophisticated tracking system (audit trail) for updates to client and engagement acceptance solution
  • Prepare draft communications on risk processes and changes
  • Work with members of the Risk Management Team to ensure all internal inquiries and requests are addressed on a timely basis (through internal ticketing system)
  • Perform other projects and tasks related to Risk Management as required

Your Experience And Education

  • You possess an undergraduate degree
  • You have proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams)
  • You are keen at keeping up to date with advancing technology and use of AI in the workplace
  • You have demonstrated strong analytical, problem solving and organizational skills
  • Experience producing analytical reports and metrics
  • You have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • You are a confident communicator when dealing with senior leadership
  • You have the ability to prioritize workloads and manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • You have a solid grasp of project management basics
  • Proven ability to apply initiative and creativity when approaching challenges
  • You have experience in a Professional accounting firm, law firm or in a Risk Management role
  • Experience in a software development environment would be an asset
