Job Description
Molecular Genetics Analysis Assistant QC
Baylor Genetics, a global leader in clinical molecular genetics, is seeking a Sr. Molecular Genetics Analysis Assistant for its Clinical Genomics Interpretation (CGI) division. This role is crucial for ensuring the quality and accuracy of genetic sequencing data.
Duties And Responsibilities
- 25%: Perform quality control review of clinical samples and Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) data.
- 50%: Analyze clinical genomics data, including variant identity using HGVS standards, variant checking in IGV, trinucleotide repeat analysis, and ordering confirmation testing.
- 25%: Monitor case tracking and turnaround times.
Qualifications/Experience
- Bachelor of Science (BS) in Genetics or a related field required. Master’s, PhD, MD, and/or MB(ASCP) desired.
- Minimum of 7+ years of relevant experience.
- Strongly preferred experience in pharmacogenomics (PGx) variant calling, especially with complex loci like CYP2D6.
- Proven track record in high-quality work, leading projects to completion, deep understanding of complex variant analysis, broad expertise, training coworkers, and workflow process improvement.
- Required: Familiarity with HGVS variant nomenclature standards.
- Expertise in clinical medicine, genetics, genomics, or molecular biology concepts.
- Experience in data quality assessment and effective communication of genetic details.
- Excellent reading and writing skills in medical language.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Desired: Experience in bioinformatics analysis, variant effect prediction algorithms, and scripting languages.
- Desired: Familiarity with American College of Medical Genetics (ACMG) variant curation guidelines.
- Desired: Knowledge of copy number variation (CNV) concepts and genomic variation's correlation with human disease.
