Purpose of the Role
The Head of IB Financial Crime Investigations at Barclays provides strategic leadership and oversight for investigations related to money laundering, bribery, corruption, and sanctions. The role is responsible for designing, executing, and continuously improving investigative frameworks that detect, assess, and mitigate financial crime risks, ensuring compliance with global regulatory standards while supporting sustainable business growth.
Key Accountabilities
Strategic Leadership & Governance:
- Define and implement the global investigations strategy aligned with enterprise-wide financial crime objectives.
- Act as the senior accountable executive for all AML, sanctions, bribery, and corruption investigations.
- Represent the function in senior governance forums and regulatory engagements.
Investigations Oversight:
- Lead and manage complex investigations from multiple sources including transaction monitoring alerts.
- Oversee the filing of Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) and other regulatory submissions.
- Maintain investigative procedures, quality assurance frameworks, and risk-based methodologies.
Regulatory & Risk Management:
- Ensure adherence to AML and global sanctions requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement in investigative controls using data analytics and emerging technologies.
People Leadership:
- Build and develop a high-performing, cross-functional investigations team.
- Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and collaboration.
Director Expectations:
- Manage business functions and contribute to strategic initiatives across Barclays.
- Lead large teams and influence decision making at senior levels.
- Negotiate with key stakeholders and act as a spokesperson for the function.
- Provide coaching and guidance while maintaining regulatory compliance.
