Position Summary
The Senior Sales Engineer serves as one of the company representatives in pursuing sales of engineered products for the space and defense industries. This role requires excellent communication of technical and functional aspects of products and services to customers. The incumbent independently leads the capture of new business to meet annual sales goals, handling application engineering, product sizing, proposal generation, negotiations, and order closures.
Key Results Areas
1. New Business Opportunity Lifecycle Ownership:
- Identify and mature customer opportunities through various communications.
- Travel for customer sites and industry conferences to gather insights.
- Qualify inquiries and develop win strategies against competition.
- Submit detailed sales call reports.
2. Proposal Leadership:
- Lead and write proposals, from basic to complex FAR-compliant submissions.
- Define technical solutions that balance budget, requirements, and resources.
- Direct proposal teams and ensure proposals meet customer expectations.
- Negotiate and close orders effectively.
3. Product and Capability Expertise:
- Develop deep knowledge of Barber-Nichols products including pumps, compressors, turbines, and power electronics.
- Perform preliminary application engineering and sizing calculations.
- Continuously broaden technical expertise within the sales team.
- Understand product integration into customer systems.
4. Market Familiarization and Relationship Building:
- Establish and maintain relationships with key contacts in target sectors.
- Gain detailed understanding of customer business processes and programmatic approaches.
- Support trade shows, conferences, and promotional materials creation.
Qualifications
Education & Training: Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent science, or relevant experience.
Experience: 10+ years in technical sales or engineering roles.
Other Requirements: Excellent written and verbal communication, valid driver’s license, willingness to work overtime, and travel up to 20% of the time.
Desired Skills: Knowledge of rotating equipment, technical writing, FAR-based government contracting, and commercial negotiation.
Work Environment & ITAR Requirements
This position involves variable physical tasks such as site inspections, travel, and handling equipment. Applicants must be eligible to work in the U.S., obtain a government security clearance, and comply with ITAR regulations.
Compensation and Benefits
