Job Description

Join Our AI Journey at Bank of New Zealand

At Bank of New Zealand, we are transforming how Artificial Intelligence is designed, built, and scaled across the organisation. This pivotal Platform Lead Agentic AI Low Code role sits at the heart of that journey, shaping how AI is safely and effectively adopted by teams across the bank.

Rather than delivering a single product, you will be building the enablement platform that allows many teams to rapidly design, deploy, and operate AI-powered workflows and conversational or autonomous agents using governed low-code tools.

About the Role

We've gathered insights from our Head of Technology – Artificial Intelligence regarding this exciting position:

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and evolve architectural patterns, standards, and an operating model for low-code AI development within BNZ.
  • Ensure the platform supports the secure, governed, and repeatable creation of conversational agents, workflow automation, and domain-specific solutions.
  • Create reusable design frameworks, templates, and best practice approaches for low-code agentic workflows, domain-specific assistants, and automated business processes.
  • Partner with domain teams to guide solution shaping, ensuring alignment with enterprise patterns.
  • Define platform guardrails, policy controls, and quality benchmarks to ensure low-code AI solutions remain safe, compliant, and production-ready.
  • Drive the adoption of low-code AI across the organization.
  • Empower business teams to build safely and independently, while ensuring adherence to platform patterns.

Projects and Work Focus for the Coming Year

This is a foundational role within a newly established team, set to underpin enterprise-wide AI adoption while delivering AI solutions that demonstrate real business value. You will help pave the “roads” that enable business-led innovation, balancing speed and creativity with strong governance, security, and compliance.

You will work closely with domain teams, architects, and engineers to define patterns, guardrails, and operating models that empower others to build independently and safely. Your work will directly support teams to confidently leverage shared platforms and standards to create value at scale.

The Most Exciting Aspect of this Opportunity

This role sits at the center of turning enthusiasm for AI into real, sustainable capability. You will have the opportunity to introduce genuine change, shaping how teams work, how problems are solved, and how AI is safely adopted – all while having plenty of scope to deliver tangible outcomes quickly and at scale.

What Success Looks Like

Success in this role means empowering business teams to rapidly design, deploy, and operate AI-powered workflows and conversational or autonomous agents using governed low-code tools.

Beneficial Technical Skills

This is an opportunity for someone with excellent stakeholder management skills and change adaptability. You will bring hands-on experience with low-code tools for building AI-powered workflows and agents. We are also looking for:

  • Agentic & Conversational Design: Experience designing conversational flows and multistep agentic workflows that support real business processes.
  • Governance & Guardrails: Understanding of platform standards, environment management, and controls that enable safe, compliant low-code AI development.
  • Security & Compliance Awareness: Working knowledge of deploying AI solutions in regulated environments with appropriate security and access controls.
  • Integration Skills: Familiarity with integrating low-code solutions with enterprise systems, APIs, and data sources.
  • Platform Enablement: Experience creating reusable templates, playbooks, and patterns that empower others to build independently.
  • Applied AI Knowledge: Practical understanding of prompts, model behavior, and limitations to guide effective use of AI in low-code tools.
