The Role: Technical Content Writer Backend

BairesDev is seeking a part-time, contract Technical Content Writer Backend focused on backend engineering topics to contribute to their blog. This role involves producing 1 to 2 long-form, ghostwritten articles per month, crafted for senior technical audiences and optimized for SEO without compromising authenticity or becoming overly promotional. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to thoroughly research complex backend concepts, validate technical claims, and translate intricate engineering realities into clear, well-structured articles featuring practical examples. The scope of topics is broad, encompassing APIs, services, data stores, performance, reliability, security basics, and production operations.

What You'll Do

• Write 2–3 backend-focused long-form blog articles per month, typically ranging from 1,500–2,500 words.
• Transform complex backend subjects into practical, readable guidance, complete with clear structure, illustrative examples, and discussions of trade-offs.
• Ensure technical accuracy by meticulously validating terminology, architectural assertions, performance/security statements, and potential pitfalls.
• Naturally integrate SEO fundamentals, including aligning with search intent, utilizing appropriate headings, suggesting internal links, and providing meta title/description suggestions when required.
• Revise drafts based on editorial feedback, ensuring accuracy and clarity are maintained.

What We Are Looking For

• Proven experience in writing long-form technical content for engineering audiences (blog/editorial, not brand copy).
• Demonstrated backend technical fluency, ideally gained from hands-on engineering experience.
• Ability to independently research, critically evaluate, and cite sources, avoiding unverified claims.
• Advanced proficiency in clear, direct English, suitable for a professional engineering blog.

Must-haves

• A portfolio showcasing proven ability to write long-form backend engineering content for senior technical audiences.
• Exhibited senior-level thinking, including the capacity to explain trade-offs, constraints, and failure modes, beyond mere definitions.
• Deep expertise in 2–3 backend domains such as API design, distributed systems, databases/data modeling, performance/reliability, observability, or messaging/queues.
• Proficiency in efficient research and maintaining technical accuracy, with no unsupported claims or invented metrics.
