Who You'll Work With
Bain & Company's "Practices" are integral to how we deliver results for clients, acting as internal Business Units. As a Sustainability Practice Consultant, while you may have some client-facing responsibilities, your primary focus will be on supporting our client-facing partners and case teams to ensure successful client outcomes and team development. The Practice defines and executes its own strategy, allocating resources to:
- Boost Bain’s knowledge and expertise in the sector or capability, co-creating innovative perspectives and products.
- Prioritize clients and enable their full potential.
- Develop the partner team and capabilities.
- Build the practice’s external brand and reputation.

Where You'll Fit Within the Team
Sustainability, encompassing environmental, social, and economic justice issues, is increasingly vital for our clients. Within the Sustainability Practice, we guide clients through critical decisions impacting their core business strategy, including sustainability strategy, operational environmental and social impact, stakeholder engagement, and growth/cost opportunities related to sustainability. Our objective is to anchor sustainability efforts in business fundamentals, demonstrate clear ROI, and embed these efforts firmly within our clients' strategy and operations.
As a critical member of the Sustainability Practice, your analytical, interpersonal, creative thinking, business management, and leadership skills will be immediately utilized. You will collaborate with the Practice team to achieve annual and long-term goals, including driving global collaboration, supporting case teams, building new intellectual property (IP), and enhancing our external visibility and competitive differentiation.
What You'll Do
The scope of work is flexible and will primarily involve the following key categories:
Solution Design, Development, Deployment, and Delivery
- Develop specific IP elements, such as global reports, research briefs, market overviews, and tailored solution materials.
- Support planning for commercializing IP and solution development, including business cases, ROI modeling, and impact assessments.
- Provide hands-on support to clients and case teams, especially in leveraging technology solutions.
- Build training materials for affiliates on the latest IP.
- Identify issues, formulate hypotheses, execute analysis, translate data into actionable insights, and present recommendations to key decision-makers.
- Support day-to-day implementation of transformation projects, focusing on operationalizing strategic initiatives for significant business outcomes.
- Conduct analysis and support business case development for solution investments.
- Contribute to digital and AI scaling efforts by identifying opportunities to embed automation, analytics, and emerging technologies.
Practice Strategy, Planning, and Reporting
- Support data collection, maintenance, and analysis on experts and commercial collateral.
- Provide direct proposal support.
- Synthesize disparate data sources, highlight issues, and spot trends for informed decision-making.
- Drive primary and secondary research efforts, analyzing quantitative and qualitative data.
- Codify best practices.
- Contribute to additional projects and perform ad hoc analytics.
- Foster a culture of innovation by surfacing new ideas, sharing pilot learnings, and championing emerging technologies within the practice.
Practice Communications and Teaming
- Work effectively cross-practice and cross-functionally, proactively sharing information and soliciting feedback.
- Train and informally coach junior team members.
About You
Education & Experience
- 5-8 years of top-tier management consulting or equivalent experience with an undergraduate degree, OR 4-5 years of experience with an MBA/Master’s.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills to drive insights to conclusive recommendations.
- Ability to effectively manage work end-to-end with minimal direction.
- Proficiency in performing complex, accurate analysis.
- Continuous learning mindset, applying insights to thoughtful improvement recommendations.
- Strong ability to structure impactful slides and communications, clearly conveying insights.
- Skill in steering highly effective small meetings and contributing meaningfully in senior stakeholder meetings.
- Proven track record of inspiring, motivating, and mentoring junior team members.
- Passion for sustainability and deploying cutting-edge techniques and tools to accelerate client growth.
- Familiarity with AI/ML technologies (e.g., Python, R, OpenAI APIs) and their business value.
- Comfort with AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Grok) and their applied business understanding.
- Interest in the broader tech industry (digital transformation, disruptive business models).
- Fluency in English.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Demonstrated product thinking: framing user needs, prioritizing features, and guiding digital solution development.
- Experience working cross-functionally with technical and non-technical teams (engineers, product managers, sustainability experts).
- Familiarity with machine learning workflows (model training, evaluation, deployment) and collaboration with data scientists/ML engineers.
- Ability to communicate complex technical/digital concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
