Who You'll Work With
The Technology Insights Group (TIG) at Bain & Company is a rapidly expanding global team of world-class technologists. This group collaborates with leading Private Equity (PE) investors and their tech-enabled portfolio companies, serving as technical advisors in investment processes. TIG conducts product and technology due diligence engagements and value creation assignments, leveraging extensive software expertise and a deep understanding of commercial environments specific to tech-enabled businesses. The global team includes technology-savvy consultants and former CTOs and CPOs from leading global technology and software companies, bringing decades of both advising and operating experience. Having completed over 400 product and technology diligences and value creation engagements worldwide, TIG has supported clients on highly visible technology investments in the US and Europe, including top software deals in recent years. Engagements span enterprise applications, vertical applications (HCIT, FinTech, EdTech), infrastructure software, cloud software, and tech-enabled services (IT services, e-Commerce, AdTech). What You'll Do
Joining the Technology Insights Group (TIG) presents an exciting opportunity to build a new and critical capability at Bain. As an Expert Associate Consultant Tech Insights Group, you will work closely with global Tech leadership and regional private equity (PE) teams. You will leverage your technology and consulting experience to actively contribute to projects, assessing key aspects of leading software companies for PE investors. Your role involves helping clients strategically approach how technology will shape their businesses and solve challenging issues. Collaborating with an outstanding group of individuals, you will develop and enhance your technology expertise, commercial acumen, and analytical capabilities. Additionally, you will gain direct exposure to CEOs, Executives, and Private Equity professionals.
Where You'll Fit Within the Team
You will gain deep exposure and access to leading software and tech-enabled companies globally, typically working with 10-20 companies each year. These companies operate in diverse sectors such as enterprise applications, vertical applications (HealthTech, FinTech, EdTech), infrastructure software, cloud software, and tech-enabled services (IT services, e-Commerce, AdTech). On assignments, you will collaborate closely with global experts, including former CTOs and CPOs of leading technology and software companies, private equity investor clients, and commercial diligence teams. This is a particularly exciting time to join, given ambitious growth plans and the opportunity to contribute to building and scaling a new global capability within Bain & Company.
- Perform primary and secondary research: Collect and analyze quantitative and qualitative data across various sources to test or further understanding of business or market.
- Product strategy and roadmap assessments: Contribute to the assessment of product positioning and roadmap completeness and viability.
- Technology strategy and roadmap assessments: Contribute to the assessment of architectures (current and future), technical debt, and related areas such as hosting and security.
- Develop and communicate insights and recommendations to the project team, technology leaders, and PE investors.
About You
This role requires a minimum of three days per week working together in person, either at a client location or at your Bain home office. Travel is required; frequency and destinations will vary based on project needs. Highly valued qualifications and traits include:
- Undergraduate/Master’s degree from a top-tier university in a relevant field (e.g., computer science, data science, statistics, information systems, engineering, business management).
- Passion for software and the broader tech industry.
- Experience in technical due diligence is preferred and/or a technical background in a PE firm.

U.S. Compensation Information
Compensation for this role includes base salary, an annual discretionary performance bonus, a 401(k) plan with an annual employer contribution based on years of service, and Bain’s best-in-class benefits package. For New York City, NY, and Boston, Massachusetts, the good-faith, reasonable annualized full-time base salary range is between $100,000-$105,000; placement within this range depends on experience, education, certifications, training, and skill level. For all other locations, the salary is commensurate with competitive geographic market rates. Bain pays 100% individual employee premiums for medical, dental, and vision programs, offering comprehensive plans without impacting your paycheck. Benefits also include generous paid time off (parental leave, sick leave, holidays), a fully vested 401(k) company contribution, and paid life and long-term disability insurance.
