Job Overview
The Principal CFD Engineer role at BAE Systems involves conducting computational fluid dynamic analysis and evaluation of submarine platforms from concept through design to in-service support. You will work on all aspects of CFD simulations, including CAD modelling, meshing, developing CFD models, solving, post-processing, and authoring technical reports and presentations.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct CFD analysis for submarine platforms
- Develop in-house modelling capabilities and toolsets on high-performance computing platforms
- Provide guidance and mentoring to junior team members
- Collaborate with naval architects, systems and propulsion engineers, customers, and suppliers
- Validate CFD predictions using alternative methods including physical testing
Qualifications & Skills
Essential qualifications include expertise in CFD modelling software (such as Star-CCM+, Ansys Fluent/CFX, or Open FOAM), deep understanding of fluid dynamic principles, and a relevant degree in Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical, Mathematics, Physics, or equivalent experience. Desirable skills include hydrodynamic/aerodynamic design experience.
