Job Description
About Backblaze
Backblaze is a leader in object storage within the open cloud movement, empowering customers with cloud storage designed to optimize budgets, simplify administration, and foster innovation. Collaborating with our partners, we help clients move beyond restrictive, costly legacy solutions to embrace the full potential of the open cloud.
Established in 2007, Backblaze achieved an IPO on Nasdaq in 2021 after scaling with less than $3 million in external funding. We now generate over $100 million in revenue as the top specialized storage cloud, managing billions of gigabytes of data for over 500,000 customers across 175+ countries, including businesses, developers, IT professionals, and individuals.
While we celebrate our past achievements, significant opportunities lie ahead. We are currently seeking a Part-Time Interim Content and Creative Lead (Contract) to join our team.
What You’ll Do as an Interim Content and Creative Lead
We are looking for an experienced, strategic Interim Content and Creative Lead to provide part-time coverage for our Sr. Manager of Content & Creative during a leave. This role demands a seasoned content strategist and editorial leader capable of managing a sophisticated multi-channel content engine, directing agency partners, shaping the brand narrative, and ensuring seamless cross-functional collaboration across Product Marketing, Communications, Growth, Sales, and Engineering.
The ideal contractor will be highly organized, an excellent editor, comfortable working autonomously, and possess experience in managing complex content workflows at a B2B SaaS or cloud company.
Key Responsibilities
- Content Strategy and Roadmap Ownership: Maintain and execute the content strategy and roadmap across brand, product, SEO, and individual campaigns. Prioritize incoming content needs from Marketing, Sales, Estaff, and cross-functional partners. Lead content coordination meetings to ensure clarity on priorities, timeliness, and ownership. Manage the content and marketing calendars in collaboration with the Associate Editor.
- Editorial Leadership and Approvals: Partner with content agencies on ideation, outlines, drafts, revisions, and timelines. Serve as the final editorial approver for high-impact content, both internal and agency-produced (e.g., blogs, reports, case studies, scripts, campaign assets).
- Agency Management: Lead day-to-day communication, weekly syncs, project prioritization, and roadmap alignment with various agencies. Ensure content deadlines are met and deliverables match brand quality standards. Coordinate pitchable content opportunities, align messaging across PR and content, develop press briefing documents, and partner with PR agencies on timing and rollout for major content releases. Own the email marketing roadmap for syndication campaigns; draft and deliver email copy and HTML; review performance. Approve SEO content optimizations, metadata updates, strategies, and other project deliverables; share monthly performance with marketing stakeholders.
- Campaign Leadership: Lead content strategy, asset development, and cross-functional coordination for the Stats franchise, brand campaigns, and ABM campaigns. Manage asset workflows through agency partners. Develop and/or approve campaign content (emails, landing pages, ads, social, reports, etc.). Conduct and distribute campaign retrospectives.
- Department Leadership: Serve as the primary content and creative liaison to the Marketing team, Sales, Engineering, and external agencies. Run weekly syncs with direct reports and guide their weekly priorities. Provide backup coverage for direct reports, including blog and social operations, creative request triage, campaign coordination, proofing/quality control, and internal creative asset review/approvals as needed. Distribute weekly updates to marketing leadership summarizing priorities, campaigns, and content progress. Maintain weekly syncs with senior stakeholders to align on campaigns and upcoming releases.
