Job Description

Buyer I, Consumables at Babylist

Babylist is the leading registry, e-commerce, and content platform for growing families. More than 9 million people shop with Babylist every year, making it the go-to destination for seamless purchasing, trusted guidance, and expert product recommendations for new parents and the people who love them. What began as a universal registry has grown into a full ecosystem for new parents, including the Babylist Shop, Babylist Health, and a flagship showroom in Los Angeles. Hundreds of brands in baby and beyond partner with Babylist to engage meaningfully with families during one of life’s most important transitions. With over $1 billion in annual GMV, and more than $500 million in 2024 revenue, Babylist is reshaping the $320 billion baby product industry. We’re helping parents feel confident, connected, and cared for at every step. As we build the generational brand in baby, our mission remains simple: to connect growing families with everything they need to thrive.

Our Ways of Working

Babylist thrives as a remote-first company, with HQ team members located across the U.S. and Canada. We meet in person twice a year—once as a company and once by department to strengthen the relationships that power our work. We show up consistently, stay purpose-driven, leverage AI to amplify our impact, and achieve results—together, from anywhere.

What the Role Is

Babylist is hiring a Consumables & Diapering Buyer to join our growing e-commerce team. In this role, you will develop and execute business strategies and assortment plans for the high-growth Consumables and Diapering departments, aligned with divisional and company-wide goals. You will identify opportunities to grow the business while maximizing profitability and operational efficiency as we scale.

You will lead strategic vendor partnerships, drive cross-functional collaboration, and work closely with teams including Inventory Management, Operations, Site Merchandising, Marketing, Content, Data, and Product. We’re excited about you because you’re an analytical thinker who is passionate about product and thrives in a fast-paced, ever-evolving environment.

Who You Are

  • You have 5–6+ years of experience in a retail buying or merchandising role, with demonstrated experience in e-commerce
  • You have strong analytical and Excel skills, with the ability to interpret quantitative data and translate insights into actionable strategies
  • You have experience managing third-party vendor relationships, balancing both internal and external financial goals. You have specific experience working within CPG and understand how to drive successful business within the category
  • You are a strong, creative negotiator with proven success landing terms that help meet both performance and profitability targets
  • You are flexible and adaptable, able to navigate changing priorities while identifying efficiencies and improving existing processes
  • You communicate clearly and effectively, and you have experience partnering cross-functionally with teams including Product, Design, Editorial, Customer Service, and Logistics
  • You thrive in a startup or high-growth environment, are adaptable to change, and can operate with a scrappy, solutions-oriented mindset
  • You are excited by consumer products, innovation, trends, and merchandising, with relevant category experience preferred
  • You are highly detail-oriented and able to uncover opportunities within large and complex assortments

How You Will Make An Impact

  • Own assigned departments and/or categories, including responsibility for sales, margin, and profitability targets, while managing associated vendor relationships
  • Develop the strategic vision for owned brands and execute merchandising strategies, including owned brand launches, to achieve financial goals
  • Build and manage strategic relationships with large national brands, ensuring alignment on joint business planning objectives such as sales growth, profitability, and co-op investment
  • Translate registry behavior and customer insights into thoughtful assortment decisions that balance customer needs, value, and long-term category growth
  • Introduce and refine processes that improve efficiency and scalability for the broader e-commerce team
  • Partner with the Site Merchandising team to shape on-site presentation, storytelling, and assortment visibility
  • Lead profitability optimization initiatives across all areas of the P&L in close collaboration with Planning and Operations
  • Stay ahead of emerging trends through data analysis, vendor relationships, and market research to ensure Babylist’s assortment remains best-in-class and highly differentiated
