About The Role
The PRN Pharmacist manages and maintains workflow efficiency. Additionally, the PRN Pharmacist dispenses prescription drugs to patients while delivering superior customer service. They provide information about those drugs and help patients understand the instructions their doctors or other health practitioners provided. The PRN Pharmacist provides supervision to pharmacy technicians.
What You'll Do
- Comply with agency policies and procedures as well as program specific procedures and protocols.
- Standard pharmacist duties to include prescription intake, verification and patient counseling.
- Knowledge of drugs and their indications, contraindications, dosing, side effects, and proper administration.
- Advise physicians and other health practitioners on the selection, dosages, interactions, and side effects of medications.
- Evaluate appropriateness of prescription orders with consideration for patient safety and legal requirements.
- Performs drug utilization reviews (DUR’s) and document interventions.
- Prior authorization management working specifically with the pre-approval process of filling prescribed medication orders to ensure the proper insurance coverage and efficacy for the drugs used.
- Monitors the health and progress of patients in response to drug therapy.
- Advise patients and answer questions about prescription drugs, including questions about possible side effects and interactions among different drugs.
- Provides information and make recommendations about over-the-counter drugs.
- Give advice about diet, exercise, or stress management.
- Advises patients about durable medical equipment and home healthcare supplies.
- Manage workflow process and supervise pharmacy technicians to ensure compliance with all standards of care to include data entry and preparation of medications and work plans.
- Demonstrate ability to set priorities and work cooperatively with others within and outside the department.
- Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.
- Knowledge of clinical operations and procedures.
- Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements.
- Knowledge of policies and regulations pertaining to the disbursement of pharmaceutical drugs.
- Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by appropriate management.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited program by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE).
- Doctor of Pharmacy highly preferred.
- Strong clinical skill is a plus.
