Job Purpose:
The Field Service Electrician is responsible for performing all required electrical work including conduit, cabling, and fiber—to support the installation of Securus products and equipment. This position installs, maintains, and repairs telecommunications hardware, LAN/WAN/networking components, and electronic devices within correctional facilities. The role ensures all installations comply with applicable electrical, safety, and industry standards.
Essential Duties:
- Perform electrical installations, including conduit, copper cabling, fiber, and wireless equipment.
- Install phones, kiosks, wireless access points (WAPs), tablets, video terminals, and related Securus equipment.
- Configure, maintain, and repair telecommunications, networking hardware/software, and electronic systems in accordance with codes, specifications, and operational standards.
- Diagnose issues, identify solutions, and escalate complex problems when necessary.
- Maintain and service existing installations to ensure high reliability and performance.
- Collaborate effectively with internal teams, contractors, vendors, and facility staff to resolve technical issues.
- Provide training and technical guidance to customers and field service associates.
- Maintain accurate records, data, and documentation as required.
- Manage assigned company assets (e.g., tools, vehicle, parts inventory, laptop).
- Submit timely and accurate expense reports in accordance with policy.
- Travel nationwide for extended periods to support installation, service, and repair projects.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:
- Working knowledge of electrical, cabling, fiber, conduit, industry, and Securus‑specific standards.
- Ability to execute tasks independently with accuracy, urgency, and attention to detail.
- Strong organizational, planning, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in installing, terminating, and troubleshooting conduit, copper cabling, wireless networks, and fiber optics.
- Ability to load configuration files and install/maintain Securus equipment and features.
- Strong multi‑tasking abilities and skill in managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Proficiency with business software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Adaptability and willingness to embrace change.
- Ability to follow Field Service Standards and all company policies.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid Journeyman Electrician license (unless not required by state).
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a licensed electrician.
- California‑specific roles require residency and possession of CA C‑10 and C‑7 Electrical Licenses.
- Ability to travel up to 100%.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master Electrician License.
- BICSI Certification.
- Microsoft Certifications (A+, N+, MCSE).
- Cisco Certifications (CCNA).
- Fiber Certification.
- Experience with Windows OS, VOIP, Adtran AOS, Cisco IOS, and wireless technology.
- Electronics/Electrical certification or degree.
- Experience working in law enforcement or correctional environments.
Physical Requirements:
Standing, sitting, walking, speaking, listening, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, climbing, grasping and manipulating tools, typing, using peripheral computer tools. May be required to lift up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
