Role Overview
As Deputy CISO at Avalara, you will report directly to the CSO and serve as the strategic and operational right hand, driving day-to-day execution across a global SaaS security portfolio at both the engineering and executive layers.
Operational & Technical Leadership
Lead and oversee security for cloud, platform, and network infrastructures in a large-scale SaaS environment. You will provide technical guidance on network segmentation, secure VPC designs, firewall architectures, protocol-level traffic analysis, and secure design patterns for cloud-native systems. You will also review architectural diagrams, challenge decisions, and guide teams in threat modeling and resiliency practices.
Incident Response & Operational Command
Drive enterprise-scale incident response with real-time decision-making. Understand root causes, containment strategies, and coordinate with cross-functional teams during high-severity security events, ensuring clear communication with senior executives.
Strategic Security Leadership
Oversee enterprise risk management and ensure alignment with frameworks such as SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR, and NIST CSF. Lead AI/ML security initiatives, influence key stakeholders, and translate technical risks into business implications.
