Job Description
Database Architect
The Database Architect will serve as the subject matter expert for databases within Autodesk Construction Solutions (ACS). This role involves proactively forming and driving a council of database experts and interested parties across ACS, ensuring organizational readiness to deliver high-quality database-backed services. You will also collaborate with infrastructure engineering teams to automate and deploy standards across the entire database fleet.
You will report to the Senior Engineering Manager, AEC Construction, and this position is a remote role based in Canada.
Responsibilities
- Continuously assess broad database readiness and needs.
- Identify significant risks and gaps in database operations.
- Charter tactical and strategic solutions for the DB platform team.
- Introduce key improvements in areas such as:
- Proactive capacity management
- Monitoring and alerting systems
- Database tuning and pruning
- Sharding strategies
- Database migrations
- Schema and query optimization
- Deadlock resolution
- Load optimization
- Database performance enhancement
- Data replication management for reporting
- Create, evangelize, and institutionalize general best practices and health models.
- Utilize industry-standard observability tooling and AWS automation to implement standards across the database fleet.
- Form a high-impact council of experts from across ACS to leverage as champions.
- Provide direct consulting with individual teams and COE leads on readiness and risks.
- Select and curate appropriate broad training opportunities for ACS Engineering in database technologies and management.
- Provide tactical support in the case of true emergencies.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in database architecture and dataplane for enterprise SaaS platforms at scale.
- Minimum of 8 years of Postgres experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience with cloud data technologies.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience with NoSQL cloud-based architectures.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills to share expertise and influence positive outcomes.
