Job Description

Senior Producer, Radio National Breakfast

The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) is seeking a Senior Producer to provide strong editorial leadership and guidance to the Radio National Breakfast team. This role is crucial for delivering a compelling, contemporary, and entertaining daily radio program, maintaining the high standards expected of a national broadcaster. This is an ongoing, full-time role, with an Ultimo location preferred.

The salary for this position ranges from $113,000 to $123,000 annually.

The Job

Working closely with the Executive Producer, you will assist in leading and managing the Radio National Breakfast team. Your primary goal will be to deliver an agenda-setting daily radio news and current affairs program. You will be expected to take a highly creative approach to editorial planning, generating original story ideas, breaking news, and agenda-setting angles. A key aspect of this role involves identifying and fostering fresh talent with diverse perspectives, all while upholding the highest editorial standards of the ABC.

Responsibilities also include writing and producing well-researched, sophisticated, and comprehensive briefs that effectively engage and inform the audience. You will contribute to managing the program team, providing constructive feedback to guide, develop, and encourage colleagues. Maintaining a strong working relationship with a high-profile presenter and managing relationships with various contributors will also be part of your remit.

A significant focus will be on generating stories that resonate with a broad spectrum of Australians, reflecting the cultural, geographic, and socio-economic diversity of the country. This includes actively engaging with communities in Australia’s outer suburbs to uncover and tell relevant stories, aligning with the ABC's News strategy.

About You

You should possess a proven capacity to design and produce a compelling, contemporary, and entertaining daily radio program that successfully meets the needs and interests of its target audience. High-level editorial skills are essential, coupled with an excellent news sense and a demonstrated interest in, and knowledge of, domestic and international issues and debates, spanning politics, economics, business, and the arts.

You must have a highly advanced ability to produce sophisticated and comprehensive briefs on complex topics. Proven experience in managing and developing team members to consistently produce outstanding quality work under tight deadlines is critical. The ability to handle pressure and maintain performance in a live radio environment is a must. Furthermore, highly advanced organisational and communication skills are required, along with experience in managing multiple program stakeholders, including presenters, guests, and technical staff.

We encourage you to submit relevant material with your application online, such as examples, links to websites, or attached audio/video files (up to 5MB).
