AI and Automation Specialist at Auckland Airport
Auckland Airport (AKL) is searching for a top-tier communicator, bot commander, and AI wrangler to join their Digital Team. If you can speak fluent automation, keep the machines working for us (not against us), and make complex tech sound easy, this role is for you. Auckland Airport is looking for a strong communicator to leverage its AI strategy with a strong focus on Cyber Security. This newly designed AI and Automation Specialist role will play a pivotal part in advancing the organisation’s digital transformation agenda by identifying, designing, and implementing automation and artificial intelligence (AI) solutions. This position focuses on maximising the opportunities presented by emerging AI tools and services to deliver measurable business value.
You’ll be Auckland Airport's resident wizard of automation, turning clunky manual processes into smooth, elegant, self-running workflows. You may come from a Cyber Security or Process Improvement background and have the ability to communicate at all levels of the organisation to drive Auckland Airport’s approach to safely and confidently use AI and automation processes.
Your Key Responsibilities Are
- Team up with business units, translate their human requests into AI-friendly instructions, and turn them into technical solutions.
- Monitor your AI creations to ensure they behave as expected.
- Assist in the development, testing, and implementation of automation workflows.
- Identify, assess, and prioritise business processes suitable for automation and AI-driven solutions.
- Identify gaps and weaknesses in organisational security posture using AI and automation.
- Provide technical expertise and knowledge sharing to stakeholders across the organisation.
- Coach and enable teams to safely and confidentially use AI in their daily work.
- Effectively deliver practical, and in some cases hands-on, learning across a wide range of users with varying degrees of digital awareness and capability.
- Stay up to date with emerging AI Technology and take accountability for robust governance and oversight of all AI related solutions ensuring safety and security.
- Deliver measurable value for the business through regular reporting and analysis.

To ensure your success as an AI and Automation Specialist, you will need:
- Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience within an IT applications or support role.
- Good understanding of security, compliance, and ethical considerations in AI.
- Strong knowledge of AI solutions (Copilot, GPT and other automation) and MS technologies (Office365, SharePoint etc.).
- Ability to clearly articulate the benefits and value of AI and automation.
- Ability to lead problem solving discussions with business leaders and users and develop recommendations for approval.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Technical expertise and solution design skills.
- Understanding of responsible AI, data privacy, and security considerations.
- Strong level of report and documentation writing.
