About The Role

The Messaging Platform team is a core component of Attentive’s product, responsible for delivering high-volume, time-sensitive, personalized messages across SMS/RCS, Email, and Push. This team builds a resilient messaging platform that sends messages accurately, compliantly, and at scale, with outcome tracking that powers deliverability reporting, replay, and operational insight.

As a Senior Software Engineer, Messaging Platform, you will lead the design, development, and evolution of distributed systems that power Attentive’s critical messaging infrastructure.

What You’ll Accomplish

• Design and build scalable, fault-tolerant systems to reliably deliver billions of messages weekly across SMS/RCS, email, and push channels.
• Anticipate future needs of the messaging platform, proactively designing solutions for growth, new channels, and evolving compliance requirements.
• Serve as a technical connector across engineering, product, infrastructure, and partner teams to deliver high-quality, high-impact platform capabilities.
• Lead and contribute to company-wide engineering initiatives, including platform reliability, infrastructure modernization, and operational excellence.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship, fostering engineer growth and reinforcing best practices in system design, testing, and production readiness.
• Improve system observability, performance, and resiliency, thereby reducing operational risk and enhancing customer trust.

Your Expertise

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a deep focus on designing and operating high-throughput, distributed backend services.
• Mastery of at least one modern backend language (e.g., Java, Go, or Python) and a strong grasp of object-oriented design, API development, and performance optimization.
• Deep understanding of messaging patterns, including hands-on experience with streams, queues, idempotency, and robust failure-handling strategies.
• Proven track record of architecting secure, reliable systems and maintaining a high bar for code quality and system health in production.
• Ability to translate high-level business goals into concrete technical plans and architectural roadmaps.
• Motivated by solving large, complex problems and continuously improving foundational infrastructure.
• Bonus: Proficient in TypeScript and React to support internal products, helping build features that surface deliverability data to stakeholders and contributing to front-end components for email infrastructure.
• Bonus: Experience developing against messaging APIs for SMS, email, or push notifications (e.g., Twilio, SendGrid, or Firebase).

Attentive offers competitive perks and benefits, from health & wellness to equity, to help you bring your best self to work. The US base salary range for this full-time position is $150,000 - $210,000 annually + equity + benefits.
