The Opportunity
The Contract Data Engineer Developer is an integral team member of Atlantic’s Data Analytics team and an expert who understands Data Engineering and Data Architecture and its tools well. The successful applicant will ultimately be responsible for developing and administrating Databases across the organization, helping us build the data lake and transforming raw data from multiple source systems to create an Enterprise Data Warehouse and Data Lake. The Contract Data Engineer would lead the efforts to help consolidate data via various sources to enable a robust reporting environment.
What You’ll Do
- Design, build, and automate data flows while evaluating and improving existing data systems.
- Study, analyze, and understand business requirements in context to business intelligence and be able to convert requirements into technical specifications and decide the timeline to accomplish tasks.
- Design and implement data models and schemas to support the needs of data analysts and other stakeholders.
- Led the development of centralized data storage across the organization while enabling our journey for a data lake development.
- Perform data analysis and comparisons across multiple data sources/systems in support of time-sensitive business needs, provide beneficial insights, and help the team make more informed decisions.
- Evaluate current state of data access control regarding authentication, authorization and encryption practices across IS systems. Develop and support remediation strategy.
- Develop and update technical documentation.
- To create charts and document data with algorithms, parameters, models, and relations explanations.
- To conduct and maintain data warehouse development.
- Build multi-dimensional data models.
- Develop strong data documentation about algorithms, parameters, and models.
- To define and design new systems by analyzing current ETL processes.
- Make essential technical and strategic changes to improve present business intelligence systems and enhance their functioning.
- Develop and maintain data warehousing solutions to store and manage structured and unstructured data efficiently.
- Version control systems like Git to manage code and configuration changes related to data pipelines.
What You Bring
- University Degree in Computer Science or Statistics or a related major.
- 5+ years of experience in database development and administration.
- In-depth understanding of database management systems and ELT (Extract, Load and Transform).
- In-depth experience with creating SQL queries, SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).
- Advanced knowledge of query optimization, index management, statistics, and partitioning.
- Experienced in building complex scripts, queries, and stored procedures without compromising data quality, privacy, or security.
- Forward-thinking infrastructure automation and scripting skills.
- Experience with big data architectures and modeling to process large volumes of data efficiently.
- Comprehensive knowledge of data platform architecture, data modeling, database optimization, data management practices, and processes.
- Experience in data governance, data governance tools, ingestion and extraction frameworks, data security, etc.
- Well-versed in programming languages like SAS, R, Python, MATLAB, Java, VBA, and Excel.
- Proficient in database management of SQL and NoSQL.
- Ability to work with stakeholders and to assess potential risks.
- Understands the need for documentation and well-defined procedures.
- Knowledge of Domo or Power BI would be an asset.
- Experience working on cloud Data Lake platforms like AWS and Azure will be an asset.
- The ability to communicate fluently in French would be an asset.

Hiring Range : $90,300 - $112,900 per year. A candidate’s experience and knowledge may be factored into the pay a candidate receives for this position. This posting is for an existing vacancy.
