About Staff Software Engineer: Cloud Cost

What You'll Do

  • Cloud Optimization & Cost Strategy: Drive and maintain optimization across Atlan’s Cloud Infrastructure to reduce COGS.
  • FinOps & Business Acumen: Collaborate with Finance and Product Ops to track unit economics and cloud spend trends.
  • Tooling & Observability: Design decentralized observability systems and implement third-party tools for efficiency.
  • AI-powered Automation: Use AI/ML to automate infrastructure management including predictive scaling and anomaly detection.

Must-Have Qualifications

Over 5 years experience with cloud platforms, particularly AWS, and 3+ years in cloud cost optimization with strong financial modelling skills. Proven ability to identify cost-saving opportunities in a microservices-based architecture, with hands-on experience in AI/ML tools.

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Experience with Karpenter, KEDA, HPA/VPA for auto-scaling.
  • Familiarity integrating tools like Cast.ai, KubeCost, or Opencost.
  • Understanding distributed observability and decentralized cost management frameworks.
  • Contributions to open-source cloud optimization or DevOps projects.
