Overview

Astrion is seeking a Systems Engineer to join the HLS Mission Planning team with Intuitive Machines at NASA Johnson Space Center's Avionic Systems Division. This role supports NASA's Artemis program, focusing on human space exploration, developing concepts for future lunar missions, and working on mission-critical systems engineering tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Develop concepts and define future human space exploration vehicles and missions.
  • Study Lunar mission campaigns and evaluate constraints across different space vehicles.
  • Define requirements, perform flow-down, assessment and verification.
  • Develop concept of operations and software V&V plans.
  • Identify, assess, and respond to risks.
  • Review documentation for major milestone reviews (e.g., CBR, PDR, CDR).
  • Examine Hazard Analyses and conduct trade studies.
  • Attend project meetings and provide technical status updates.
  • Maintain professional relationships with NASA and commercial partners.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Required Qualifications / Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • Experience in early program concept development, requirements development, design trades, and risk analysis.
  • Proficiency in developing operations concepts for single or multiple space vehicles.
  • Experience with technology roadmap development and stakeholder needs analysis.
  • Knowledge of interface definitions, configuration growth planning, and test/verification of spaceflight hardware.
  • Strong grasp of systems engineering principles and related documentation.

Desired Qualifications / Skills

  • Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Experience with multi-agency NASA projects and center collaborations.
  • Background in hardware or software development for space missions.
  • Experience with space mission analysis techniques.
  • Familiarity with human space exploration systems such as Orion, Commercial Crew, ISS.
  • INCOSE Systems Engineering Professional certification.
  • Familiarity with systems architecture tools (e.g., DoDAF, TODAF).
