Key Responsibilities for the Director, Internal Communications
The Director, Internal Communications will focus on several critical areas:
Strategic Planning & Executive Counsel
- Build trusted relationships with senior leaders, offering expert guidance on communication strategies that support business goals, facilitate change, and strengthen the company culture.
- Partner with executives to develop clear, compelling messaging for major initiatives and organizational transformations.
Communications Planning & Execution
- Develop and execute targeted communication plans to ensure clarity, consistency, and measurable impact across the enterprise.
- Collaborate effectively across various teams to align messaging and track performance, utilizing insights to continuously enhance employee engagement.
Continuous Improvement & Quality
- Scale communication approaches throughout the organization, ensuring content is leveraged efficiently and shared globally.
- Deliver high-quality, brand-aligned communications using the latest tools and platforms.
- Proactively integrate AI and emerging technologies to boost communication quality, efficiency, and creativity.
Communications Transformation Leadership
- Champion modern communication practices and technologies to advance and evolve the internal communications function.
- Foster collaboration and mentor teams through periods of change, leveraging data and industry trends to identify continuous improvement opportunities.
- Support the adoption of AI and digital tools to expand reach and enhance overall communication effectiveness.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in corporate communications or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Minimum of 10 years of internal communications experience, preferably within a matrixed, global organization.
- Proven strategic thinker with strong business acumen and demonstrated experience advising senior leaders.
- Exceptional writing, storytelling, and editorial abilities; highly skilled at simplifying complex topics for diverse audiences.
- Strong project management skills and experience using data to optimize communication strategies.
- Creative, detail-oriented, and dedicated to continuous improvement.
- Proficient with Microsoft 365 and communication-specific platforms, including SharePoint, Teams, Viva Engage, Copilot, and other AI-enabled tools.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate cross-functionally, coach colleagues, and manage sensitive communications with a global mindset.
Helpful Skills and Experience
- Experience partnering with Marketing and Creative Services to deliver integrated, multi-channel internal campaigns.
- Background in insurance, financial services, or another highly regulated, complex industry.
